Cosmology of Kyoto
I'm not far into this game and I don't quite know what the objective is but still, it is fascinating.
Koichi Mori's Cosmology of Kyoto is a graphic adventure for PC and Mac released in 1995. It takes place in 10th century Japan in the ancient capital which is overrun with demons. At first I didn't like the game's art style, but it has grown on me. Everything is depicted in grotesque form, nothing like the anime style one would expect from a game with Japanese voices that are subtitled. The game has such an eerie atmosphere and unique feel that it makes me want to keep playing.
Roger Ebert gives a positive review of the game here- http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/2.09/streetcred.html
Anyone played this game?

I've never heard of it, but it sounds really cool. Know of anywhere online with screenshots?

I can't find a screenshot anywhere. I guess the game is more obscure than I thought.

I've been meaning to check this out for quite some time.
...As far as pictures go, this is all I can find:

Huge help, I'm sure.

This is way off topic, but I must thank you for that link. Looking through those archives of Wired kicks ass :)

Maybe this isn't totally kosher, but you can check out XXXXXXX. You can download the game for free there - sure its illegal and Doug Lowenstein will hate you forever, but hey, its abandonware. I dont think a place exists online to actually buy it.
I might give it a try tomorrow.
EDIT: Nuh-uh.
