MS buy out rumor

I heard an interesting little rumor today...

I work at an EB and my manager recently went to some sort of Microsoft convention in NY. Apparently he had one of the MS guys aside and he asked who MS' next target was (seeing as the Rare thing had recently happened). The guy's responce? "I'm not saying anything for sure but all I'll say is this: It would be the final blow to Sony. yes, he emphisized the word "final". My manager asked if he was reffering to Square to which he refused to say more, only again repeating the sentence.

I'm taking this with a grain of salt and I don't know how much validity there is to it. My manager's not one to lie to me but at the same time I'm don't want to be responceable to creating the next 'net rumor. Take from this what you will.

I'm sure Sony and EA would have something to say about that, as they both have vested interest in Square. Add to that, the fact that Sony owns a good portion of Square.

I agree on both terms. Although last I checked (and I could be completely wrong, I haven't really looked into this) Sony only owned about a quarter (if that) of Square. All MS would have to do it buy more than a quarter. And with MS' huge wallet it's possible.

I believe Sony owns somewhere around $100 million in Square assets. When Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within put Square in the hole by $100 million, Sony picked up the tab.

see companys dont just walk in and buy other companies

they have to agree to be bought

its not like walking in and buying a PS2

also i dont think Square is really what MS needs seeing as how in the last year Square has released a whole 2 games FFX in december last year and now KH

anyway my guess would be that if there is any company MS is gunning for it would be Rockstar and Grand Theft Auto

but i beleive they tried that allready and its not going to happen

Like I said, I'm not convinced at all. Just thought it was intresting to here. And, Square can be publically bought, no? Wouldn't MS just have to buy a certain percentage of the shares, of the company. Again, I don't know too much about this/didn't look into it. Just thought it was intresting.

I went to the store today, to buy smokes, the owner of the store told me that cigs will go up to 50 dollars a pack and that I should buy all I can now.

Amazing the truth that these people know. :)

Ya' know. I clearly said that I didn't even think it was true. yet you still have to paint the picture of me beleiving every word of this like I'm a god damn GamePro reader or something. You never fail to piss me of.

Also, why is it that someone can post a story about an EB employee about the "Mega-ton" Nintendo announcement and everyone beleives it yet I can't just share a story someone told me?

Oh, that's the best one yet. The final blow! It almost makes it sound like MS has Sony on their knees, bloodied and dazed from all the previous blows, like the one where...uh...y'know, that one where they really got Sony good? Oh yeah, one more hit and Sony's goin' DOWN!
