Things aren’t looking too good for Microsoft...
Gaming magazine Enterbrain is reporting that Microsoft’s total Japanese sales for their Xbox console as of March 31 are 190,092, far below what Microsoft was hoping for, having readied 250,000 consoles for it's launch in February. Microsoft refused to comment on the report.
As comparison, since its launch last November, Nintendo has sold 1.29 million Gamecube consoles in Japan. As of January 1st, Sony has sold 4.05 million Playstation 2’s.

What I find interesting is that those Gamecube sales numbers mean that Super Smash Bros. Melee is selling nearly 1:1 with the console. Crazy... its like people see it as the SSBMcube, not as the all purpose Gamecube.
Well, the cube didn't launch with that many titles to begin with and Smash was considered a big title (IMO) so I can see how it would be one to one. As more games come out the sales will start to vary.
