Xbox live gamertag questions

Do you only get one gamertag per xbox? Can the gamertag be changed easily?

For example, say I wanted to go play at a friend's house. Can I "sign in" with my gamertag on his xbox machine?

You need a memory card to transfer the info I think, although honestly I could be wrong

yeah, get a memory card and then you can take your shit to your friends house and use your gamertag along with his on one system.

I gamertag per $50, basically. And as the others have said, put your live stuff on a memory card, and you can cart it around to any XB that (a) has been hooked up to broadband, and (b) run the Dashboard update to load the XBL dashboard.
