Thread: Taito WOWOW system: Why not?

  1. Taito WOWOW system: Why not?

How lamentable it is that the console never came to market, since it looks like it would've held promise.

Apparently Taito was going to cooperate with JSB and ASCII to produce a Neo-Geo CD class system. I'd imagine that this would've been based on the Taito F2 hardware and would've given the FM Towns a run for its money.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

I would have loved some arcade perfect Darius.

  3. Oh yes... and that version of Parasol Stars would likely be impressive. The TG16 one looks decent, but I'd have liked to see PS done in an arcade quality version (don't know if it appeared in arcades).

  4. It didn't appear in the arcades although it's rumoured to exist in prototype form. I guess it's this version that would have got ported rather than the PCE/ST/Amiga version. Such a shame that this Taito system didn't get released.

  5. "I could see: Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Island, Parasol Star, Kikikaikai, Rastan Saga, Darius and a vertical shoot'em'up I could not recall."

    Nice lineup. Thanks gameoverdude.

  6. Any system called wowow has got to be cool. Darius and Rastan... such fond memeories of both. Rastan used to be at an arcade around here where it was like 5 bucks to get in, but all the machines were free. Many a hour was spent fighting lizard thingies and making akward stiff jumps to platforms with fire swords on them. I miss that game....
