Thread: Did anyone love the NES Rygar?

  1. Did anyone love the NES Rygar?

Rygar for the NES was one of my favorite games, and IMHO it was much
better than the original arcade game, because they turned it into an action-RPG instead of just being a straight port.

I loved how you became stronger as u kill more monsters, how you can upgrade your weapons, etc..

I know the NES version had awful music, but luckily I played the Famicom version which had a completely different (and awesome) soundtrack.

I always wished Tecmo would make a Rygar sequel that would be like the NES version....

  2. Yeah, I dug it more than the arcade game as well, much more in-depth.

But I disagree with what you say about the domestic soundtrack to it. I personally loved it and still remember a lot of the tunes
    omg TNL epics!

  3. YES !! Definitely better than its arcade counterpart , even the music in it was catchy ,and for its time pretty good I thought.

I still have horrid memories of giving the controls over to a friend when I was on the last level (the sky castle), he thought it was pretty funny to jump over the side into the "great blue sky "and suicide kill me - but instead I just got stuck in some weird bug in the game that wouldnt let me die or move : ( -- So I had to restart

I erased the bastards Zelda save the next day for that one <grins evily>

But yeah definitely classic goodness - although the last lion headed boss seemed like kind of a push over....... Way over due for a sequel hopefully the PS2 version will live up to the Rygarian standard

  4. Heck, yeah! I loved the NES one enough that when I heard about PS2 Rygar, it pretty much pushed me over the edge into buying one.

The rpg elements ruled back in the day, when they were a rarity. The collision was pretty weird, but the diskarmor was cool, and so were the powerups.

I hope, somehow, that it's included in the new one, since most people probably never played any version of the game, let alone the coolest one.

  5. Totally awesome game. Personally, I loved the soundtrack, and I hope the new one has remixes of some of the tunes. They've already shown a similar graphic style, and some pretty damn neat combat, so hopefully there's a good game there.

  6. I loved the original Rygar game as well. I went nuts when I heard about the new one! The original had some awesome music! I have the mp3's of the original game as well. Also got the minibosses doing the theme as well. Go download it!! I think it is at their webpage(if its still up) I'm pretty sure the new Rygar comes out today or tommorrow, so I am very excited. I also read in either game informer or EGM that the original(NES) game is hidden in the new one

  7. Now we're talking! It looks like Shinobi was screwed up, but thankfully Rygar is looking sharp.

I hope to God the NES version is included. The music didn't hold a candle to the five-star arcade soundtrack, but the gameplay and game progression put most other titles to shame.

  8. I still hate the last boss- but any game that features a guy beating the crap out of dino-like animals with a giant Yo-Yo is fine by me.

  9. I hated the NES Rygar, primarily due to the lack of save function. Anyone who enjoys it now must be full of nostalgia or playing it on an emulator and abusing save state function.

  10. I watched my friend play through it in roughly 30 minutes, so your excuse is void!
