Thread: Jyhad / Vampire : The Eternal Struggle

  1. Since nobody bought it and Magic prices at the time still commanded a hefty price, I was able to pick up 36-pack booster boxes for $20 from some places and ended up completing the whole original set, and the first expansion.
I did the same thing, except my booster boxes and deck boxes only cost me $5 bucks a piece! It pays to know the owner of a comic store.

Anyway, I've never played the game, but would love to. I wish someone else around here was into the whole Vampire mythos. White Wolf weaves a remarkable world. Changeling is probably my favorite.

  2. So my g/f got me a Camarilla Edition starter deck recently, and since then I've picked up a few Bloodlines boosters and a Setite Final Nights starter deck.

So far I'm extremely impressed with the new cards and vampires. These dual discipline cars are a stroke of genius. Right now I'm really interested in the Salubri antitribu. I'd like to integrate them with some Gangrel antitribu or Ahrimanes and build a combat deck around unblockable strikes, Dawn Operations and Fortitude, and use the Auspex/Spiritus card Nose of the Hound to get into combat. If I get enough Blood Brothers of the same circle I might try to mix them with the Salubri antitribu and go for Potence/Valeren/Fortitude. So many possibilities!

Now I just need to find a reasonably priced box of Bloodlines. Some dude on eBay was selling a couple boxes for $50-60, but he had a bad feedback history so I passed.

    Any help, dog$?

I've been watching boxes go through ebay for the last couple of months and except for good ol' Jyhad (and Dark Sovereigns, the two sets I completed, what luck), I very rarely see boxes slip by for less than that $50$60 range.

I wanted to try to get at least one Bloodlines box at any rate but I got fired from my old job... and thanks to my new one at FedEx ground, I never see much of anyone except for weekends, so the game's gonna get ignored for a few more years around here

Oh well. Much like a stack of games, they're not going anywhere as long as I keep them.

  4. Played it a bunch back in the day as a 'break' from Magic.

Pretty sweet game, though I was more of a Netrunner guy myself.

Speaking of mtg, I played that tons. I managed a comic/game shop at the time, so I could easily spend eight hours a day or more playing. We were big into the tourney scene and all that. I was ranked 3rd in the midwest for a while...but after I quit the comic shop, I just didnt have the time to play competively anymore.

I haven't bought any cards since around "weatherlight" I think it was called. *shrugs*

I'd been playing at tourney level for so long, it just wasn't fun to play casually anymore... :/

Now that I've shown how much of a nerd I am, I'll be off!

Magic is big with a few guys at my college. I can think of a few guys that when I go see them at their dorm room, that they can't go 10 menuits with out two of them busting into a game.

  6. I am now fully "into" this game again. I bought my girlfriend a box of Bloodlines for Valentine's Day and we've even convinced a friend of ours to start playing, so now we have a steady group of three people. And then a few weeks ago, I ran into some dude who runs Jyhad tourneys out of Phoenix. And now the Anarchs expansion is coming out in May! It's a great time to play Jyhad.

Right now I've got a nice Tremere thaumaturgy/intercept deck, an untested Samedi/Ventrue bleed/combat deck, a Giovanni bleed bruiser, and even a Ravnos deck in the works. These new cards are really fantastic.

    Good times Sleeve ^^

The only things my friends want to do lately is play Dynasty Warriors 4 and/or smoke.

  8. That's awesome, sleeves! I'm still looking into a playgroup. I've hit up my local comic store on Magic night, but no one wants to play with me.

  9. Time for a Jyhad update!

I played in two tournaments over the past three weeks, first an Anarchs precon and then a regular constructed deck tourney. I fared pretty poorly in the first (the Gangs deck is pretty week in a precon environment *sigh*), but walked away with 5th place in the second with a tight Assamite thaumaturgy deck.

The Assamites are my new favorite clan in VTES. They're hard to play, but they've got some kickass cards. I also like the Giovanni quite a bit; the Final Nights expansion turned them into a real tournament winner. Now I'm working on a goofy, yet potentially brutal Salubri Antitribu/Ventrue Antitribu combat/bleed deck.

There's yet another expansion coming up in November: Black Hand. Should be pretty sweet. And the Storyline tournaments begin next month!

Here are some links for the handful of VTES enthusiasts at TNL to check out:

The Path of Blood: Awesome Assamite-centered site with a great messageboard and some great strategy articles. Must-read for combat deck players.

The Lasombra: This guy's been a pillar of the Jyhad/VTES community since the beginning. Just about everything you'll ever need to know about the game is here.

Monger: Online crypt and library database, excellent for deckbuilding.
