Sony won't give money for defective products that they can't verify as coming from that store within a specific time frame by serial number. Wal-mart will end up eating that return

My Dc 9/9/99 died 2 weeks after the one year warranty expired. Ironic is'nt it? I took it down to Wally World and got a new unit. I then went on to purchase about 40 more titles for the console. So who really lost out? I could have said fuck it! Bought a PS2 and never looked back at the Sega product, but instead I took matters into my own hands and they have benefitted from it, more than they have lost.
you can't justify stealing by buying other products. The end result of thier losing/gaining money based on all of your transactions is inconsequential, you took advantage of them and ripped off a DC.

  2. Victrix,
If the console broke through normal wear and tear(as in you didn't spill on it or something), call Sony. From what I hear, if you complain enough they will fix it for free. Assuming you are having the DRE problem that is. Just remember to be civil. Yelling will get you nowhere. I've heard they sometimes offer to fix it for half the price but if you keep arguing they will cave in. I've not done it myself as thankfully I picked up a warranty from EB with my system because I had a feeling this would happen. All I can say is good luck. I recently had my Ps2 die on me so I know how it feels. The thing stopped playing CD-Roms right when I got home with Contra....

No, but if I choose not to purchase another product from that company because the first one died in about a year's time, they have lost me as a customer.

Beleive me, I had my 5 disk changer repaired at a Sony repair center. They charged me $120 to fix a $240 CD player. I knew it was the $45 laser lens, but they had to charge me the flat fee, as they called it refurbishing. So who is ripping off who? Sometimes they deserve to get the same treatment they give their customers. Beleive me, Sony has made a ton of money off of me, with purchases of a $600 Trinitron, $1000 worth of Surround sound Stereo Equipment, $250 DVD player, $300 PSX, $300 PS2, and a $75 cordless phone. That does'nt even include the software and movies thtat Sony has made money off of.

I pay hard earned cash for a product, I better get more than a year out of it. Who's ripping off who then?

  4. Vic, CALL SONY!

I called Sony tech support about a week ago. My PS2 has had trouble reading blue disc for a few months and finally quit reading them all together although it will still read DVD's, but it's much slower than normal. Sony is fixing it for free. If your really young have your mom or older brother call in, it always helps to have an adult, and explain your problem. Also tell them you take really good care of your gaming system and that nothing horrible has happened to it. I have to pay for shipping it to them, but they fix it and ship it back at their cost with about 2-3 week turnaround. Just have your system handy because they'll need a set of #'s on the back. Good luck and hopefully you'll be up and running like new in no time. [edit]I also bought a PS2 the first day it came out and mentioned this to them. It might help if you tell him/her this in case they try giving you the run around.
    currently playing - GTA 3 d(-_^)

  5. Also, you could try opening your system and cleaning the cd/dvd lense. That worked for me when I started getting DRE's a few months back.
You probably don't think I'm a very nice guy...

fixing it for free..YES..but you're still shoving money out from your pocket to ship it. so in other words, it aint free. free would be having you not spend ANY cash..not even a penny. if they had you pay for shipping and they reimbursed you, than yea, thats still free, but you're paying for the shipping and they arent reimbursing.

  7. I feel for ya man. My Xbox from launch gave up the ghost this week. Had to replace it. Always sucks.
Look out, man, Wooly's gone ape-shit.

this is the first time i had a sony equipment go poop on me. i had my sony cd walkman, that costed me $200. i had it for no more than 6 months, and the cd player stopped reading the disks. i didnt call sony cuz my was a import cd player, and since there was a authorized sony repair center like 3 blocks away from me, i went there. the lense itself costed $75. the labor was like $45. that right there is $120..not including tax. for an extra $80 i could buy another cd player. luckily, the manual said 1 year parts warranty, so i just paid the labor, which was still kinda expensive. what was worse was before i even remember about the 1 year parts warranty, i went out and bought the same cd player. luckily i found someone to buy the cd player that got fixed

Just clean the lens with some alcohol if it is a DRE problem, my PS2 worked perfectly after I did that, and is still running smooth.

My 95 Ford Mustang GT had a recall on the electric fan. I took it to Ford last month, after the thing stopped working. Ford replaced it for free. My question is, why does'nt Sony have recalls on their Playstations and PS2's? Because they know they used the cheapest CD drives on the market, to save a couple of bucks. Do you really think that the PSX sold 100 million units and 20% of those were'nt people replacing their broken units?

The NES sold around 75 million units. Not until recently, have I heard of anyone that has had to replace their NES, but you always hear stories about the PSX and PS2 dying a pre-mature death. People can blame it on the CD drive having moving parts that break, but can someone explain to me why my August of 95 Saturn is still running like the day I bought it? I played that machine more than any console I ever owned. The Saturn was'nt built with cheap parts and it costed me over $399 because of that. The Playstation and PS2 were built in the cheapest way possible and I'm sure we are going to hear plenty of horror stories about PS2's breaking, in the near future. Here's to hoping that my Gran Tourismo 3 packaged PS2, does'nt fail so pre-maturely.

I think game console manufacturers should provide at least a 1 year warranty on all their products. My Sony Television did, so why not a gaming console?
