I'm starting this in hopes of actually playing with some of you.
I will be playing Mech Assault tonight at 9:00 PM Central time. If I get a good response from this thread, I will host a game with some private slots. I usually host games of 6 mechs, but I still have problems with people getting dropped off. I will probably stick to simple Destruction matches, since a lost player or two will totally fuck a team match.
If I get enough responses from this by 5:00 central, I will make a totally private session.
I should be online at about that time. How does the process work, though? Does the host send out invites? Daft question, I'm sure, but I've never hosted games myself.
Man, it is gonna be pretty damn hard to do, and I've been trying to figure out how to make it as painless as possible.
Honestly, I think I will have to set up a game with a couple of private slots open, (depending on how many people are going to show up) and just wait until one of you guys join. This will probably piss off any strangers who join the game & sit there while I wait for everyone. Not that it matters much, there are plenty of people waiting to play all the time.
Once I know one of you is out there, I will make all my games with at least one private slot, so all you have to do is just keep refreshing the opitmatch screen untill you see my name again, then join up.
The more TNLers come around, the more spots I will make Private. It's kinda wonky, but that is the best method I can come up with.
I may try to get a team destruction going, but like I said, people tend to get bumped off right before the match starts. This is a problem everywhere, not just the games I host, I have been dropped right when the game is launched, & you get the message, "Lost communication with the host" or something.
Team destruction with a team of 3 against 1 or 2 people is really shitty no matter what side you are on. Maybe we can try some 2 on 2 team play, The smaller sessions may improve our chances of keeping everyone when we start.
I'm supposed to meet with some people at the same time Werewolf is, but I'll try to hook up as well. I should be off and on the rest of the day anyway, so take a look for me.
Saw Schlep and Nigel for a (very short) while, but mostly me and JM tore it up with some Mad Cats and Catapults. Hopefully we can get a TNL battle going on a larger scale some time -- it's really not so bad once you manage to synchronize a bit.
Yes, Mode7 & I made a formidable team, if I do say so myself. What was the score on that last game? 20 to 1 or 2? And both teams were using catapults, so it wasn't unbalanced.
I do believe that last night was the most fun I've had in mech assault so far. I played a few rounds with Nigel, & I almost got to play with Schlep, but the first time he got bumped off & the second time I accidentaly hit the back button & canceled the session. Sorry Schlep.
I will just put an open invite out for any TNLers to join me, I will be playing around 9:00 - 12:00 almost every night. Once we play together, when the session is over, just go the the optimatch screen & hit refresh untill you see my name & join back up. The hard part is just hooking up in the first place.
