Thread: Sega's Xbox exclusive titles

  1. I'd like to see Virtua Fighter 4 on the GC myself. That controller just screams VF.

Basically - House of the Dead and Shenmue II (and maybe Sega GT 2002) are the only likly candidates. GunValkyrie and JSRF may very well be out of the question. If you debate the cost factor I say this: It costed $5,000+(USD) to port Crazy Taxi from Naomi to Dreamcast. Xbox to PS2 would be at least just as costly if not (and all very likely) moreso.
Yeh, I agree with you and I see what you're saying. I don't think any of the games would be best-sellers. I just think it might be worth their while because I think it can be argued that any single one of those Xbox-only games might sell at least twice as much on PS2 or Gamecube (depending on the game). Again, I doubt they'd break any sales records but they could turn a profit.

After all, part of the reasons these games may have sold so poorly is because they are on Xbox - which has a low install base and which many "Sega fans" may have skipped.

PS2 has many more units sold and GCN has much much much less competition for worthwhile games. So, depending on the game I think some of these games could do fairly well, in spite of poor sales on Xbox.

Not to be contrary, but not only would I say that graphics are in the top 10 important things about a game, I would put graphics in the top 2 or 3. Believe it or not (and here's where I go REALLY crazy), there are instances where I would put graphics in the number 1 spot. Crazy, huh?

Graphics being important in a visual medium? That's crazy talk!!

Well, the way I see it, I'm not so sure of the XBox sales were that bad. Sega turned a profit rescently so they had to have made some money off of it unless Sonic, VF, and Super Monkey ball covered all the expenses.

If the cost to make the game isn't extreme, then XBox might actually be Sega's safest be as there are only two Sega titles that have sold below 50,000. I mean even JSRF who people keep saying has sold horribly is actually the 4th best selling non-sports games in Sega's third party line up.

The other systems have great sales with mainstream games, but if you look at the niche titles, sales drop dramatically. So the question becomes whether or not the change of getting those sales up is worth the risk rather than going with a base that you know is likely to buy a certain amount of your games consistantly.

To end it, it pretty much goes down to demographic and finding ways to break niche titles into the mainstream. Once they do that, they can port them and make some extra profit.
Taking it one day at a time.

  5. I find it strange that most of the main sites didn't mention anything about Sega's Xbox games finding their way to other systems. I only remember reading that Virtua Fighter and Sonic have a chance to be on more systems.

Another thing that's odd is XBN's interview with Smilebit. The team behind Panzer Dragoon Orta stated that the only reason they were inspired to do a game to update the Panzer Dragoon series is because of the Xbox. It doesn't sound like Orta will be getting ported soon, if at all. I do think Sega should port ToeJam and Earl 3 to the GC. The game might be able to snatch more users on that system. I would hate to see the graphics of HOTD3 take a hit, but if WOW wants to outsource the game so more people can enjoy it on the PS2, that's fine with me. HOTD is my favorite light gun series, so I wish WOW Entertainment all the luck in the world when it comes to keeping it going.

I'm still hoping for an update to the Sega Ages series.

Yes, I was about to mention "those people that cry and complain about how Virtua Fighter 4 isn't on xbox and how 'jaggy' it is on the PS2 can get a XBOX copy to go masturbate with."

So ya, VF4:EVO is probably a definite addition to the xbox library.

  7. I'd gladly accept the chance to play more great games at the risk of them being slightly downgraded in visual quality. I don't have the money to buy all three systems (yet) so this would be great for me.

  8. I think GunValk could work on PS2. Space Channel 5 PArt 2 seems like perfect GC material. I could see any of Sega's PS2 games going to GC. PDO seems within reason, though it would take a little finnesse. JSRF looks like a DC game, so I think you could swing that on cube too.

    More uncertainty from SEGA

One of these days SEGA are going to make a positive decision and stick to it. This is just more of the "Will we? Won't we?" limp-wristed humming and hawing that they've been up to for the last few years.

One thing to consider though, is that these sales reflect worldwide sales... 80,000 units of JSRF worldwide... ouch...
