Thread: Help me make a shopping list of horror DVD's

  1. Help me make a shopping list of horror DVD's

I'm asking for Best Buy gift cards for Christmas so I can build a good sized horror movie library.

    Here's what I own already:
    Return Of The Living Dead
    Re-Animator Millenium Edition
    Sleepaway Camp Survival Kit
    Last House On The Left
    Friday The 13th
    The Beyond
    Zombie
    Pieces
    Unhinged
    Blood Feast
    Jason Goes To Hell

The criteria for my purchases usually boil down to:

has to be Widescreen, needs some sort of extras, HAS to be uncut, R1 or all regions only, and the transfer needs to be decent. The movie can be pure shit, as long as it's gory as fuck, or somewhat sick.

A few things I'm keeping an eye out for are a new verson of I Spit On Your Grave that I read about in this months Fangoria, anyone know if this is out? The Prowler ( I have this on VHS, but I think it's on DVD now), and breaking my own rules, My Bloody Valentine. The disc is bones bare, but I want it mainly out of pure nostalgia as it was one of the first horror movies I saw.

So, what do you guys suggest? Also, it would help to know if something is out of print so I don't search for it all year.

    Thanks in advance!

Oh, If anyone happens upon a DVD copy of Bloodtide for cheap (as it should be) grab it for me, and I'll reimburse you.

  2. THE THING
THE EXORCIST (one of the great works of cinema)
EVIL DEAD 1, 2 AND ARMY OF DARKNESS
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (black and white original)
    DAWN OF THE DEAD
    ALIEN
    DEAD ALIVE (gore galore)
You're really missing out if you haven't seen those.
    Some other intersting ones-
Audition (japanese movie in region 1, the first half is normal but the second will fuck with you head)
Biozombie (hk movie that plays in region 1, it is a fun zombie flik)
The Devil's Backbone (mexican film in region 1, a good ghost story)
If you like Lovecraft I've heard that Dagon is good, but I haven't seen it.

  3. Okay, I've noticed that there are multiple versions of the Evil Dead trilogy out there. Which one is the best of the bunch? The Book Of The Dead box set, or the individual releases? and what's the Army Of Darkness Bootleg Edition?

    Be back with more

  7. I think every horror fan's collection should include The Exorcist, Halloween, Psycho (Hitchcock's), Alien, and The Blair Witch Project. Each of those films is, IMO, a real example of what fear is, without all the ridiculous splatter.

Hey Despair, I'm a huge fan of horror, and I have maybe ten films from your list.

Don't forget In The Mouth of Madness too - probably the best Lovecraftian film to date (until del Toro gets working on Mountains of Madness - I have high hopes for that one).

Dagon is OK - it stays faithful to the story for the most part, but adds in some pretty shameful stuff.

    Satoshi Kon: 1963-2010

I haven't heard about the new I spit on your Grave DVD, but the Movie is overrated IMO.

I'd love to know if the Silent Night Deadly Night Movies are on DVD.

Wait you got pieces? isn't that that Chainsaw Massacre rip off? There was one called Junior too.

Wow Last House on the Left is a damn brutal Movie.

I love the Halloween series but it's an aquired taste.

  9. Dont forget Basketcase!

    Is that even on DVD?
