Simular situation here, the team had a ton of die hard fans that went even when they sucked. They were just at the start of a uphill climb when they left, and it really sucked to see them hit the finals after dumping on thier CT fans. The funny thing is, they still don't draw nearly as consistantly in Carolina as they did here, even with a vastly better team.

I hate to say it but Thibault is useless. I was a fan of his when he was on the Nordiques.. and once the 'Diques were dead I blasphemously became a Habs fan (growing up in New Jersey I was not a Hab hater though, so no big deal there for me)... Anyway, Thibault was gutless for the Nordiques in the playoffs and then worse for the Habs. There are some guys who raise their level of play in the playoffs and in the big moments, and others who simply disappear. Tbo is one of the latter. When the going gets rough he bails on his teammates. The Blackhawks witnessed this first hand last year. I think he'll never be much more than a pretty good goaltender on a bad team. He's not a "winner".

The best thing about being a Hawks fan right now has got to be the fact that you guys have one of the best prospects in hockey. Tuomo Ruutu is going to be great.

now to keep this on subject. when will they ever make sticks break in a hockey game. besides EA games burning in hell for the atrocity they are i just want sticks to break. and actual goalie helmets. for those that have the game are Osgood/Irbe wearing stock helmets or their "euro style" ones? also are the paintjobs there or generic? as you guys can prolly tell im a big time goalie nut. course i am one myself
Oh yeh? Cool I hope you recognise the best goaltender of all-time is Martin Brodeur then.

I think the reasons you don't see the actual helmets in games is because they are probably copywrite of the designers who make them, who can be anywhere in the world. It would probably be a lot of trouble for them to license each piece of helmet art. Still, it would be extra cool if they tried to do so.

Just be glad that they didn't win the Stanley Cup in their first season in Carolina. As a Nordiques fan it absolutely gutted me to see the Scumalanche do that in 1996. It was horrible.. and they did that with the hated and loathed Patrick Roy in goal, to add insult to injury.

Me and the Leafs don't get along after the whole Cujo thing. It was disgusting, and I seriously hope they don't make the playoffs this year just to send management a message. Aw, who am I kidding. Their capacity is 100% corporate seats. They'll sell out even if the ACC is empty.

5, "NHL2K4 - Lockout Edition" is going to suck.... that is unless you get to beat Pee Wee Bettman to a pulp.
Oh come on, player reps vs. contract lawyers? It'll kick ass! I just hope they get the haggling physics down right.

6, "including every single playoff game".. Errrr.. every single playoff game except for the entire Devils-Hurricanes series last year. Argh!
Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. But even the people in those cities didn't watch those games, so who cares?

As a Nordiques fan it absolutely gutted me to see the Scumalanche do that in 1996.
    Scumalanche...

he's a great goalie but actually not one of my favorites. tho i dont dislike him. eddie was always my favorite and roy i despise, especially after his comments when playing the hawks in the playoffs a couple years back (during the chelios/roenick years). "i cant hear you i got my 2 stanley cup rings in my ears". whatever...just go twitch somewhere you fuck. other favorites are dominik hasek (yeah he would always take the dive and get "injured" way to often but theres no doubt he was great. i actually play a lot like him since i never received any formal "correct" training), byron dafoe (now away from the "can't score 2 goals a game for our stellar goaltender to win" Bruins...only to go to a worse team) and Cujo. his helmet was badass in Toronto. ahhhh....i want this game now. couple...more....days.

  5. Theodore's going to be the man (if he isn't already), no doubt. Brodeur's (and Roy's, whether you like him or not, he's the best, probably ever) accomplishments are tough to top, and Jose's going to have a tough time winning in Montreal, but I'll be damned if he doesn't have skills.

  6. ill say he was damn near amazing last year. havent been paying much attention but i hope he doesnt pull a Kolzig and have one stellar year and then fade away.

  7. »» I have been a fan of José Théodore forever.... He's not going to be a flash in the pan and his great year last year did not come out of nowhere, like some people think. He was great in junior. Great at the World Juniors and the World Championships. He was great before last year for the Habs too. He came within .001 of winning the Crozier (GAA) Trophy two years ago. As far back as '97 he was great in the playoffs for the Habs, relieving the inept and bewildered Thibault versus the Devils and winning a double OT marathon....

He's has a rough start this year, but that's more of a symmptom of the Habs defence playing terribly and a run of bad luck. Not to mention the media circus creating a controversy for no reason... Theo will be fine though and I predict he'll be Brodeur's backup at the nxt World Cup and Olympics.

Also, playing in Montréal won't phase him. Like Brodeur and (as much as I hate to admit it) Roy he is a big game player and he likes an thrives under pressure.

»» As for Brodeur. He's the best. Ever. Period. He's so underrated because he plays in NJ.. but the man is rewriting the NHL record book and he will erase all of Roy's longevity records. He has the best GAA in modern history already. It's not because the Devils are good defensively either. The Devils are so good defensively because of Brodeur. He's also underrated because he is not "flashy". The reason he is not flashy is because the man knows how to play his position and he's not always flailing about because he is out of position. Some guys make the easy saves look hard (CuJo, Richter, Etc) but the true greats make the hard saves look easy. That's the essence of Brodeur.

Oh yeh, and Canada can forever thank him for getting the Gold Medal Roy couldn't.

ps. It's funny how much more successful this thread is than the NHL thread I created in Sound Off did:
    http://the-nextlevel.com/board/showt...&highlight=nhl

pps. NHL 2K3 Content: Ugh, why oh why is Roenick on the cover? And worse yet.. all that ESPN crap has got to go. ESPN is a disgrace to hockey.

Also, anyone who has the game already... is the line-changing improved from last year's awkward mess?

Pat Quinn (grr)... he made Cujo cry.

ahhhh....tis true. function follows form. the greats make the position look boring. always taking them in the logo and smothering the rebounds. thats positioning and yes brodeur does it VERY well. but i will say, when he needs it he's got one of the most gorgious glove hands ive ever seen i would hardly call him underrated. everytime you watch an espn game 90% of the talk from the sportscasters is about him and not the team. i would say among the fans, yes but among those who know the sport he isnt.

also, get used to that ESPN liscense. i think SEGA signed a 5+ year contract with it and they're only going to use it more in the coming years. now when they get Melrose saying "OLFENSE" in my game that's when ill refuse to buy it and i wouldve been in the sound off thread in a second but i dont frequent that board to much. now i have a reason

  10. Yeh, the ESPN license just plain sucks but I guess I can live with it if it's just the graphics. I read a review of the game last night and they said who the announcers were. I forgot already but at least it's not Gary "Tonsils" Thorne and Bill "Teenybopper" Clement!

Then again, 2K2's announcers were so annoying I just turned them off and didn't care. Announcers rarely effect my enjoyment of a sports game, unless they're funny like Jack Charleton in Worldwide Soccer 98. He sounded drunk and it was funny.

Another 2K3 question for anyone who has the game. Did they put the old classic uniforms back in the game? I loved that feature in 2K and I was disappointed they took it out last year. I liked busting out the old KC Scouts kits for the Devils on special occasions.
