Thread: Beep beep! Make way! Merger coming through!

  1. Anybody remember the Sega-Bandai merger that almost happened?

I wonder what could have been...

  2. This is simply the most amazing fucking news of the year. If there are any companies that deserve to merge, it may as well be 2 of the 4 greatest game makers in history. This new company will rule the gaming world with an iron fist in production values and gameplay sophistication.

Justin's a legit source. As the linked thread says, he used to be the Japan gaming correspondent for the BBC. He interviewed Yu Suzuki and Tomonobu Itagaki for some US game publication recently. As for John TV, ever heard of EGM's John Ricciardi? Yes, I agree with the former President that the Gaming-Age forum is currently the greatest source for gaming news on or outside of the internet, barnone (while TNL's the greatest gaming enthusiasts site on or outside of the 'net ).

  3. Fuck Gaming-Age.

    TNL forever!!!

  4. Hehe . . .

  5. I'm betting Konami + Capcom. Just a hunch that Sega has little to do with this and it was only mentioned to get BBS's everywhere riled up in some frenzy.

    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  7. If it involves Sega, I don't think it would be a merger but more of a buyout. Sega has already publicly mentioned that they were going to be more aggressive in acquiring other smaller companies. With that being said, I'm guessing Sega buys Namco (as most other predicted.

Konami? Please. They're like the #1 developer/publisher in Japan don't need any such action, in my opinion.

Capcom? They just officially announced five new games and once they get their real estate bs sorted out, they'll become profitable again.

Namco? Well, they've been really quiet for quite some time and have not had a significant announcement that's created any buzz/hype in the industry (they're really few and far between as of late) so it might be in Namco's best interest to go under Sega's umbrella.

  8. Clash, that was some funny shit man.

  9. Sega and Namco have colloborated on many things recently and are also the 2 biggest players in the arcade. I'd say that these 2 are the most compatible.

Konami doesn't need to be bought, they wouldn't sell to anyone but why would there be any adversity in a mutual merger?

Sega's just not going to happen... not that I can tell.
