I received my Everquest Online Beta CD with one page instructions from Sony yesterday and went one for the first time. I have never played Everquest before on the PC and really did not know what to expect.
Sign Up/Logon - Signing up and logging on went without any problems at all. The first time I logged in it downloaded a patch and I was ready to create a character.
Character Creation - Creating a character was pretty straiht forward ,but there did not seem to be a whole lot of variation per class. I created a Dwarf Paladin
Starting Out - being a new user I found it very confusing. I ran around in circles for about 1 hour without knowing how to get out of the castle. Without a keyboard it was hard to ask anyone for help. I finally met a player who should me the way out an explained I needed to get quests.
Quests - Once I understood how to get a quest I felt like I was getting the hang of it and really started to enjoy myself. I did about 4 quests , last one was collecting various animal parts from slain creatures and having a smith make a better weapon. I played 3 hours and made it to level 5.
Graphics and Sounds - Are top notch, I found the outside world full of creatures and players and was very impressed.
Gameplay- the camera gets a little funky sometime when going around corners , but you have the option of 1st person point of view which made me feel see sick.
Overall - big learning curve for newbies, need a keyboard for effective communication with other players. Overall I enjoyed it.
Mine should be coming any day now, but I doubt I'll play it. I've had the P2 disk forever, and didn't touch beyond that one time. I don't have the time to become consumed by an MMORPG.
