I love America, dont know about you, but I just love to see dirty politicians embarrased by their hypocrisy.

Long live Jimmy Carter (not the TNL poster - the real one)!!!

  2. This has nothing to do with dirty politicians "embarrased by their hypocrisy". It has everything to do with playing hardball and getting the job done. As I said, you need to look at the whole situation instead of parts. It's easy to interperet bits and pieces as you'd love to see them without looking at the whole story.

Politicians "embarrased by their hypocrisy" would be Trent Lott and his stupid comments made last week (and in 80) and paying heavily for them now.
bastard of the new world order.

  3. Eh, whatever. I've looked at the whole story.

If giving chemical weapons to an oppressive third world leader is condidered playing hardball, i dunno....

Maybe, but even in context I don't see how it was a just decision. Other nations, as independant political and cultural entities have a right to self determination. The fundamentalists were backed by the Iranian populace, and despite Khomeni's profile abroad, he was considered better than the Shah's corrupt regime.

The fact that he didn't share the US' politics and was going to make life difficult in terms of oil didn't really give anyone the right to trigger a bloody 10 year conflict which ended up with both sides so decimated they were sending children to the frontlines. To this day the Iran-Iraq border is uninhabitable due to it being covered in landmines.

  5. I dunno...I think Carter (the president) wasn't that great a guy, and continues to confound me with his recent speeches.

    To each their own.

Sweden could totally kick the USA's ass, though. They'd make the US soldiers wander a circuitous route through the entire country looking at wooden furniture before they could get to the capital. They'd be practically suicidal by the time they got to the end (unless you only send chicks), and ripe for the picking-off. It would be another Vietnam, only with catalogues.
