Thread: Unison

  1. Unison

I saw Unison for PS2 at the bargain bin at Toys 'R Us. Anyone have this game or know more about it? It looked kind of interesting.

  2. I wish I could help you out...
I own both the Japanese and US versions, yet have never touched the game.
    Long story, don't ask.

If I'm not mistaken you can find Frequency for the same price, which would be a much better choice.

  4. Can you give more info on both games? What kind of game / gameplay?

  5. They're both music games. frequency has a hex/octagonal area in which you travel on, you move from side to side completing measures of the song, each side is a slightly differnet part of the song (drums, guitars, synthesizer etc).

Unison is a music game where there are cheerleaders practicing (don't get any idea's). You follow along their movements with the pom poms with the two analog sticks (there's a guide to help you on the bottom of the screen, something i hear the JP version doesn't have).

I love music games, frequency is great fun, but unison I wish i've never played....

  6. I love music games too. Space Channel 5 is def. my fav music game although I'll admit I haven't tried too many. Is frequency comparable to SC5?

  7. I enjoyed Unison, but it's one of those super-sweet-happy games that 99% of gamers (American gamers, anyway) absolutely despise. It's dumb, colorful, and caused an argument between me and a female on whether they were fourteen or twelve, but a good time was had by me.

Like Hayato42 said, it basically revolves around the dual analog sticks alone, as you move them around in circles, back and forth, and so on. You start off in practice, where you try to memorize the movements divided up into segments, and then you have an actual "show" where you go through the whole song. The American version changed almost the entire soundtrack (I really want the Japanese version) which now includes some oddball songs that don't fit in the slightest (although it is funny watching three hyper-cute white-as-milk females dance to "Country Grammer"), and also added in cursor markers so you know where to go during the show. You can turn that off so it plays like the Japanese version, where you actually have to have the entire song memorized perfectly. A daunting and difficult task, but fun if you like the music.

However, if you don't already have Frequency, it's by far the better music game. But if you enjoy insanely over the top cute and colorful stuff, Unison's your game.

Nope. SC5 is essentially Simon, but Freq is a whole different beast. You're given lines of music which revolve around three notes, and you have to press the three notes in the order they're shown in as they reach the bottom of the screen. Complete two bars and you've added an instrument to that section of the song; each section has around six instruments IIRC, and each song is divided up into more sections as difficulty increases.

There's a chance I have a demo disc with Freq on it laying around somewhere, so if you want it PM me and I'll take a look for it.

The bottom line: It's no Space Channel 5 or Frequency, but if you're looking for another music game (especially at the current price it's available) - pick it up.

The anime nuances are cool and I was actually pretty pleased with it. The controls are a bit odd, though unique (first music game that actually bothered to use BOTH analog sticks). Plus, there's a nice collection of modern/classic artists/songs like Sister Sledge (which there were more).

    Mech: Uh, they're 12 I believe. Jailbait.

    Fourteen! They have breasts, dammit!

  10. They do? I wasn't looking that closely

(reminds me of the Budwiser "Tastes great - Less Filling" debates)

    And they're 12...
