Thread: How satisfied are you with your PS2/GC/XBox?

  1. My PS2/GC/Xbox rules! It plays everything and launches SCUDs! 10/10!
    -Kyo

  2. Xbox
    Gamecube
    PS2

PS2 is in last place because the hardware is holding developers, and the industry, back. Xbox is in first place because the few good games it has can't be matched on either Gamecube or PS2. Gamecube is in second place because I like Nintendo better than Sony.

  3. For this year (November 01-November 02), I've been glued to both my PS2 and Xbox. I'll go ahead and do scores since other people are, and they're relative to this generation only.

    Playstation 2 - 9/10
Surprising to me, this system was one of the two that kept me the most busy this year. It started off with Grand Theft Auto 3, which lead to Virtua Fighter 4 which was simply amazing, to Kingdom Hearts which was a surprise to me being one of the best games I've ever played, and finally wrapped up the year with Ratchet & Clank, a great platformer that satisfied my itch. The only reason I didn't give it a perfect score is because of the technology behind the system. No progressive on most games and no surround technology (outside of the dated DPL1) isn't acceptable when placed next to the other two systems. Granted the system did come out a year earlier, but current games are starting to use these technologies which means that games could've, and should've, used them all along. Oh well.

    Xbox - 9/10
Another absolute surprise to me. I waited outside in the high 30's for 9 hours to pick this up. Why? Because it was a system that was launching ...I didn't even know of any games I wanted, I just picked up Halo because it seemed the best of what was available (which didn't seem like much). How was I to know that Halo would become one of my favorite games of all time? Same goes for Gunvalkyrie which I just picked up as an impulse buy. I was also very happy with games like Robotech and Jet Set Radio Future. Just recently, playing MechAssault with Xbox Live is phenomenal, and Splinter Cell is absolutely jaw dropping, both in graphics/sound and gameplay. Top it all off with downloadable content for both MA and SC and I couldn't be happier. My only disappointment with the system is with Microsoft. They've got such a great stable of developers that could be pushing out great stuff like Halo and Mech Assault, but instead, they let stuff like Whacked!, Fuzion Frenzy, and Azurik slip out the door. I do have to say that they look like they're starting to realize that that doesn't work, though, by giving Brute Force and Halo 2 the time they need to become great games. Hopefully I'm right.

    Gamecube - 5/10
It would be a lie for me to say that I was anything but supremely disappointed with the GC. While Super Smash Brothers: Melee was a ton of fun, and Animal Crossing was a nice diversion, there wasn't too much that came out to interest me. Super Monkey Ball's mini-games are fun, but I felt ripped off for $50. Super Mario Sunshine was the worst Mario I've played next to Mario 2. I've bought but have yet to play Starfox Adventures and Metroid Prime, so this score may end up being bumped up a little bit. Since I talked about the bad stuff first, I'll move on to good. Next year's lineup for Cube looks a bit better than this past year, with the Capcom 5, F-Zero, and Final Fantasy: CC coming out. I'm definitely wanting to love this system as much as the other 2, but I can't love a $200 dust trap.

    Gameboy Advance - 8/10
The release of good games is so sketchy that it doesn't really have any kind of pattern. I bought and played Advance Wars intensely the night of the Xbox launch, and then got Golden Sun a couple weeks later. Both of those games are incredible. Sonic Advance I loved, but then there was nothing, except remakes. Then, finally, Metroid Fusion came out, which is wonderful from what I've played. I'd like to go back and pick up a couple titles that I missed, like the Megaman Battle Network games and Kirby now that it's out. Overall a great buy if you ignore the remakes.

  4. In terms of how satasfied I am with each?

PS2 - 8/10 - Obviously not the revolution that was promised, but still home to a considerable amount of worthwhile games.

GC - 8/10 - Starting to come into it's own light. While it has a much smaller library of games than the PS2, it's home to several that see a large amount of playtime from myself and my friends.

GBA - 9/10 - Since it's been released, this machine has stolen alot of my playtime away from consoles.

  5. Gameplay: 10/10 It was great and I liked the part where you punched the bad guys

Sound: It was ok, but I like don't noises what

Graphics:MOST IMOPRTANT. I like these much.

    Overall 100:50

  6. I kiss my Cube every night before bed, and my PS2 still sucks as much as it did last year. I'll occaisionally throw my Xbox the glance of a bitter father who wanted a boy and ended up with a girl.

If the Xbox Year 2 library's jump in quality from Year 1 is ANYTHING like the PS2 Year 1 -> Year 2 jump, the Xbox library will be absolutely phenomenal. The Xbox already boasts an impressive library for a rookie system in it's first year.

Being an Xbox owner, I am immensely satisfied with my Xbox, to the point where I am actually shocked how much I enjoy it. I swear it has rejuvenated my passion for gaming which had been on it's dying gasps since the Saturn era. Definitely a 10 for me.

As for what I see from the other two systems, the PS2 gets a 7.5 and the Gamecube a 6. I am biding my time to buy a PS2 and a large cache of 'Greatest Hits' titles, but I'll probably never buy a Gamecube. The library just doesn't appeal to me with few exceptions.

When? Sega has announced nothing for it after Orta and the rumored Chihiro Out Run. Konami has essentially gone PS2-exclusive. Capcom also has announced nothing after Dino Crisis 3, except maybe more Steel Batallion controller fodder. The American-style stuff is better played on a PC. What the hell is there that everyone is so excited about, seriously?
