Thread: Questions regarding Rainbow Cotton

  1. Questions regarding Rainbow Cotton

I was looking through a list of import DC games and I was surprised to find Rainbow Cotton. I picked up Cotton 2 for the Saturn a couple of months back and throughly enjoyed the quirky shooter.

I looked at the screenshots of Rainbow Cotton and noticed that it takes the Starfox rails approach instead of its conventional side-scrolling nature.

Do any of you guys know whether or not it's worth picking up?

Take that as you will. I've never read any reviews on it, myself, so you might want to google search it.

  3. It's lighthearted and simple, I liked it more than just about any other similar game (Space Harrier, Panzer Dragoon, et al). Those kinds of games aren't usually my bag, but this one got me some chuckles. On the other hand, I bought it on release for like $60. So let's see... if it's maybe $20-25 new, and you like the art and design to begin with, I'd say you'll probably get your money's worth out of it.

  4. It's not very good since your character is constantly blocking your view, and she also snaps back to the center when you let go of the analog stick.

I wouldn't pay more than $20, and that only because it has pretty good aesthetics.

  5. It's no Panorama Cotton, that's for sure. But not terrible.

  6. ...

Yeah, I paid 25 bucks for it complete, popped it in for about 5 minutes, and haven't touched it since. The idea is noble and the sound and graphics are decent, but the way she blocks the screen makes it unplayable for me.
"50,000! You scored 50,000 points on Double Dragon?"

  7. It's basically crap. I picked it up for $10 several months ago, and I wouldn't recommend paying more than that, even if you're a Cotton fan. The control was difficult to fight with. Cotton herself took up more than her fair share of the screen real estate. Moreover, the game just wasn't any fun. It wasn't a Panzer Dragoon, a Space Harrier, or hell, even a Panorama Cotton by any stretch.

Looking at screenshots, though, I can understand how one could be duped into buying it. The game does look very nice.

  8. The main problem with the game is the control. You move the cursor, not Cotton herself, and the way she has the tendancy to get in the way is rather annoying. Plus, the game isn't set up well a lot of times, so while you are moving your cursor to shoot something, Cotton is flying right into a baddie or something. If the game was set up like Space Harried control wise, it would be INFINATELY better.

Still, while a lot of people think it is crap, I think it is a fun little game. I paid full new import game price for it, which was a mistake. However, if you can find it cheap ($15 or so), I'd pick it up. You might not want to spend much more than that, though. Plays rather rough, but can be fun, and is pretty to look at.

  9. If the game was set up like Space Harried control wise, it would be INFINATELY better.
Too true. Part of why I'm very harsh on the game is that with a little extra play testing and quality control, Success could've made Rainbow Cotton into a very nice game.

  10. I say to skip Rainbow Cotton. My complaints are the same as most gamers, mainly the control and the fact that she obscures your view. It's a shame, I really wanted to like the game too.

It is one heck of a good looking game though, I'll give it that. It just isn't all that fun.
