In the 1970's, the era of afros and bellbottoms, a brother arrived on the scene that would forever alter the landscape of motion pictures as we knew them. For years the movies of comedian Rudy Ray Moore have captivated millions. No matter if it was Petey Wheatstraw: the Devil's Son-in-law, The Avenging Disco Godfather or even Monkey Hustle, Mr. Moore's films have inspired generations. However, his most endeared and famous role is that of Dolemite, a funkin', jivin', rappin', street-wise kung fu pimp with an army of hookers trained in the martial arts at his disposal. The epic saga began in the original Dolemite, but the series reached it's zenith in Dolemite 2: The Human Tornado (also released recently was The Return of Dolemite). The movies are equal parts action, comedy, kung-fu, and just plain weird. Damn, I love them. Lots of guys karate fightin', talkin' the jive lingo, wearin' the funky clothes, and takin' the fight to those "rat soup eatin' honkey muthafuckas!". True classics in every sense of the word. Anyone here ever see a Dolemite movie? All of Rudy's movies have been released on DVD recently, in fact you can pick up the Dolemite Collection box set- 7 DVDs (4 movies, 2 live stand up shows, one retrospective). I've seen the box set at Best Buy for $39.99- what a bargin! Of course the individual movies are for sale as well. Here's a few links to reviews- check 'em out, bruthas, or you gonna haveta pry these Hush Puppies outta yo ass!.
