Thread: Do you buy extended warranties on new consoles?

  1. I don't, the only console I've had problems with was one of my DCs, and Segas distrubitor screwed me royaly on that one, I'll never forgive those assholes.

I have never bought an extended warranty and never plan to. If the retail stores did not make a profit on them, they wouldn't offer them, thus, you are by definition losing money by buying one.

  3. Some of you guys seem to have a LOT of problems. Personally I have never had any except for a GG that died many years after I got it.. and of course this wonky PS2 I just bought... but at least that is a problem right out of the box, which is a bit different since it has nowt to do with *extended* warranties.

But also you are taking a chance. What is $25-$35 now for a no- questions-asked-instant swap versus the possibility of having to pay $150-$200 dollars later?

  5. I agree with Yoshi on this one. I used to work at an electronics store. And if you are dumb enough to buy into them it's nothing more then pure profit that the stores simply pocket.

  6. I really don't like to, but I have in the past. I bought one for my dreamcast, and it turned out to be a sound investment, as I loaned my system to a friend, and my nephew used a third party controller in it, fucking up the system.

It purely depends on the warranty policy. When I got a used PSX at EB, I picked one up and the policy was an instant exchange, and yes, I used it. When I worked at Best Buy, the way they worked on consoles was you had to ship them (on your dime) to a repair facility, and that was totally useless.

We don't sell consoles, but the "replacement plans" where I work now are nearly useless, we usually let our customers just come back and swap it at the store (against policy) or just give them the money back. It's only useful on computers, since it's on site service.

  8. I do for PS2's and not usually for Nintendo consoles. My PSX caught on fire and I've never had a problem with a sega or Nintendo console so I don't feel the need. Sony seems to have a knack for making lower grade electronics so I buy the 3 year.

Nintendo is also the cheapest console as of late (Gamecube) so it won't break my bank.

  10. Why are you yawning? It literally caught on fire. Actually, to be honest my brother friend wanted our old PS2 for 225 bucks, so I gave it to him and bought a brand new one. I had to tilt it on its side to play most games anyway, and it caught on fire with HIM. So it did catch on fire, nevertheless.
