Thread: New Sonic in '03

  1. Ugh, don't reminds of the SA 2 cutscenes, too many bad memories. The worst one I can remember was when they meet with the president in a limo... Way too cliched and out of place.

  2. I must be weird or something. I loved SA2. Even the cinemas. My only complaint was the new control scheme and broken roll ability.

    Well, someone on planet Earth had to have liked SA2's cutscenes

    Agreed, the broken Spindash execution was a major annoyance.

  4. I hope the next Sonic will take place on Mobius... or anywhere except for Earth for that matter. I am also hoping for at least 75% Sonic (or Sonic-like) action.

    Werd. SA2 as a mess, but I still enjoyed a good bit of it... even Treasure Hunting wasn't so bad at first... but it happend waaaaaay too often... and that infernal beeping... MAKE IT STOP!

    Rouge was easily the worst character design ever in a game, and she played worse (actually WORSE) than Knuckles did (which is such an insult to that great character). The cut-scenes, especially the President one, were worthless and painfull to watch. There was no setting, no atmosphere... only a chance few good levels between Sonic and Shadow and a few of Tails/Robotnic stages saved the game from being a complete mess. Knuckles doesn't need his own gimmick - he was always fine as "the other Sonic who could climb walls and glide".

    Sonic Team was on the right track woth the first Adventure title but too many nay-sayers (IMO) changed the direction of the Sonic Adventure series. I'd love to see it contine (as well it should) and go along the lines of the first and sorta pick up where it left off. Also, Sonic Team would do well to take a few ques from Nintendo in involving thier licenced characters in games better. Tail's can play Chu Chu Rocket on the go... that'd be a great mini-game and opens the door for more online elements. Keep in mind I'm just tossing out ideas as they come, but damn they could do more with the series and maybe - just maybe - they could acheive that final product by actually doing less and NOT LISTENING TO GAMERS. They don't know what the fuck they want.

  6. Hm, funny that folks in general have no problems with the Tails/Robotnik stages, but found the Knuckles/Rouge treasure hunt stages grating. It's the complete opposite for me. I enjoyed laboring through Big The Cat's game in SA1 more than the Tails/Robotnik levels in SA2.

    But I think we can all agree that the different characters' games (if we have to play them at all) should be arranged separately, not one after the other. It worked for MDK2, it does not work for Sonic.

    I'm the same way, I didnt mind the Rouge/Knuckles levels too much, but the Eggman/tails levels grew increasingly annoying and repetivite.

  8. I hated the Knux/Rouge stages in SA2.. I actually enjoyed the Knuckles stages in SA1 though. I didn't mind Big that much either. As for Tails and Robotnik levels in SA2... I thought they were ok. At first I didn't like them but I grew to enjoy them a bit more as the game went on.

    I definitely think that one of the reasons the first game was overall a bit better because because you could select which charater to play as. In the next game they should go back to that set up. The best parts of SA2 (the Sonic/Shadow levels) may have been better than the best parts of SA1... but SA2 was a bit more uneven.

    I also like the idea of a ChuChu Rocket mini game. Maybe they can make a NiGHTS minigame too and base it on the Japanese NiGHTS cell-phone game.

    As for the supporting cast I'd like to see Tails, Knuckles, Shadow (well, if possible), Metal Sonic, Tikal, and maybe Cream (from Sonic Advance 2) if she plays well.

    I would also have a 2D Sonic special/bonus stage or two.

  9. Dude, NiGHTS should be playable in the game... make it part of the story. That would be much cooler.

  10. Sonic needs to leave "Earth" and go back to Mobius. I don't want to see one human being in the next game!

    I must admit, I hated the Tails/Eggman shooting levels the most. These levels were not only what I didn't want to play, they were bad too. By contrast, the Knuckles stages were done rather well, but still weren't what I wanted to play in a Sonic game.

    SA2's biggest flaw was the auto-switching of characters. If you could play the entire game as Sonic until the end, then the Knuckles and Eggman stages would have been merely crappy bonuses. Switching gears so much killed much of the game's fun.

    I also didn't mind Big's levels but I did hate Big's character itself. That voice, that stupid music, it was all junk.

    I'm anxious to see the next Sonic game, I haven't dismissed ST's efforts yet because they have a full tank of talent. We may bash SA2 but simply play a game like the new Spyro the Dragon and you'll realize just how bad a game can be.
