After Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 wouldn't they know what everyone's feedback is on certain levels nobody liked?

Maybe they'll give us a great Sonic game, but then again that's just wishful thinking. Right now I think the best of the newer Sonic games is Sonic Advance although SA1 and 2 had their moments of greatness.

SA1 was mostly greatness IMO.

It's my third favorite Sonic of all time behind Sonic CD and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

I really enjoyed Sonic Adventure as well. I loved almost everything about the game. SA2 was a bit weird.. the great parts were outstanding, but it was a much more uneven effort. I actually hated SA2 at first, but after a while and after forcing myself to play it I actually grew to really love it.

Yeh, Amy is ho-hum at best and Cream.. well I have not played Advane 2 yet... but she can't be worse than Rouge. Her gameplay seems like it may be fun....

But Tikal is really really cool... one of the best characters Sonic Team has come up with in a while. I really hope they continue to use her in Sonic games.

The problem with the Sonic series is that Sega cranks out new characters for it without giving them much thought. Tails was a great addition to the series and had lots of personality but characters like Rouge are an embarassment and never should have made it into a final product.

Well.. the main playable characters in the Sonic universe are:
Sonic
Tails
Knuckles
Amy (sorta.. she's not been playable in that many games).

Other characters have been:
Cream (Advance 2)
E-102 (Adventure 1)
Big (Adventure 1)
Shadow (Adventure 2)
Rouge (Adventure 2)
Eggman (Adventure 2)

Also: Spinoff games like Sonic R required more characters for obvious reasons and had: Metal Sonic, Tails Doll, Metal Knuckles, etc... Also, some characters were only unlockable in Adventure 2, like Tikal and the Chaowalker thing.

So... it seems that the problem with adding too many characters has basically been a symptom of the Adventure series. The entire setup of the Adventure series has been controversial since it started though. The new characters have been pretty lacklustre and forgettable (Big, Rouge, etc)... but at least Shadow was fantastic. I hope he retains a place in the Sonic universe.

I hope the new Sonic game forgoes all of these extraneous characters.. or at least relegate them to bonus/multiplayer type characters.
