Assuming you can be present for the waning seconds of an auction, sniping is the only way to go. Anything else is just needlessly driving up the price, IMO. Besides, if you really wanted it more than the other guy, his sniping shouldn't have mattered. Either you foolishly lowballed your high bid or he bid more than you were willing to pay. In either case, you did not deserve to win that auction.

I bid my maximum 2 minutes before the end of the auction, and don't look back.

I will only bid on Ebay if there is less than 10 seconds remaining. There is no point to placing a bid days or even hours in advance because there is no way you will win, and all you did was hike the price up. Furthermore, if you wait until the last 10 seconds you do not have time for a second impulse bid. Those impulse bids at the last minute always go over what you intended to spend. Sniping is the only way to go on Ebay, and if you're a man you will snipe manually with out those wussy auto sniping programs.

I agree, I always use the "watch" feature of ebay to easily view what the auction is doing...

If it is staying around a price im willing to pay I put my butt back in the computer chair right before the auction ends..

I have had to set my alarm clock for 3 a.m to do so but I have won the auction. ;p

agreed, although the guy with the wussy auto sniping program will probably have his bid in with 1 second left, rendering your snipe useless....not that i use that crap myself..

Well, Always try to bid 1 or less before the end. It makes the chances you will get Sniped much lower. As for putting very high amounts on your bids, its not a wise practice, since what if someone will bid it in the last moment and will drive price much higher than what you actually wanted to pay?
