Thread: Pokemon GC before this summer?

  1. Pokemon GC before this summer?

    http://www.gamers.com/news/1292630

"According to Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Nintendo is planning to release a GameCube version of its child-hypnotizing, cash-sucking RPG series, Pokemon, in Japan before this summer.

Details are still scarce on this as-of-yet untitled game (we'll call it Pokemon GC from here on out), but the newspaper did release two very important points, which we've kindly laid out for you below (cash-conscious parents, sit down before you read the second one):

    1) Pokemon GC will retail for less than the cost of a standard first party Game Boy Advance game (4,800 yen, or about $40).

    2) Pokemon GC will only operate when coupled with a Game Boy Advance and one of the two upcoming GBA Pokemon games (Ruby and Sapphire, both due out in March in the U.S.).

While Nintendo has been keen to incorporate connectivity features in its GC and GBA games in the past, this will be the first time they actually require gamers to own both consoles in order to play.

Judging from the info released thus far, it sounds like Pokemon GC may wind up as more of a supplementary disc for owners of the GBA games (along the lines of the N64 Pokemon Stadiums) rather than a full-on "real" RPG. Disappointing, but not at all surprising.
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire were released in Japan on Nov. 21 and have already sold through an alarming 2.7 million copies."

Hmmm... I'd prefer a complete Pokemon game for gamecube as opposed to just a supplement, which will probably only let you battle your friends and raise a few Pokemon Monster Rancher style *maybe*. I guess we'll see.

  2. That is pretty disapointing =\ But whatever, if it's Pokemon, I'm there =D
    Play Guitar Hero //

  3. Yeah, I'm there too, but here's hoping there's more meat on this disc than is being speculated. How hard would it be to create a few towns and gyms and whatnot, 16 bit style, just as add ons to the existing gba games? Not very. Tho one of the plusses of the Stadium games are seeing polygonal Pokemon I guess...

For $40 I'd like to see some additions to the adventure as well as Stadium style battles.

  5. You'd think they would have made a real pokemon for N64 or GC by now. Why the hell haven't they!? They would sell buttloads. Imagine if GC launched with one, there would probably be about 2x more GCs in homes today.

  6. I want a damn Pokemon game on GC, online support would damn nice too. This... doesn't sound like I'll care too much about, especially if it's another Stadium affair. Here's hoping it's something cool and worthwhile.
naturam expellas furca, tamen usque revenit

  7. Ok, so we need the GBA game to play the game on the GC and a link cable.

So it can mean one of two things.

    1. It is going to be a lame pokemon stadium game. Still you get to not show what moves have or decisions you are making.

    OR

    2. A game that requires the GBA screen ala what was shown in Kirby's titl'n'tumble 2. There is a whole world of possibilites for this.
