Thread: Friends and Videogames

  1. On a related note, I stopped lending out my DVD's after 2 never came back. I only let someone borrow one if I know them really well and they are close enough that I can go and get them back if I need to (humans are lazy and forgetful bastards).

One of my friends was the "Lord of the Borrowers". He'd have that shit for months. But 98% of the time you'd get it back in the shape it was in when you gave it to him. Often times it would be played, then put on the shelf and forgotten about.

  2. There is really only one or two people that I let borrow my games and such. They know of my obsession with gaming and they know if there is a single speck of dust on my discs there is going to be bloodshed.

Other than those two, I've had bad experiences with "friends" before.

    - Let someone borrow my Princess Mononoke DVD. When it was returned, it was scratched to hell. Had to buy another one.

    - Let someone borrow my Grandia II music CD. Returned with a huge gash in it. Ubi Soft was nice enough to send me another copy.

    - Let someone borrow my Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters for the Genny. He ended up letting someone else borrow the game. He moved away.

    - Let someone borrow one of my ODCM demo discs. (with the Shenmue movie) Returned a month later with an infinite number of scratches AND the sleeve was all chewed up and bent.

Wanted to borrow my FF IX some time later. Didn't happen.

That's all I remember as of now. Friends tend to suck.

  3. I have about 5 people who I trust with my games. I tend to be a neat freak/perfectionst by nature, so if I lend something out, it BETTER be returned in the same condition. It's all about trust and respect for ones property.
It's all about the New York Islanders!!!

  4. Since my friends are casual gamers, their logic is "if you have so many systems, what not lend me at least one and a couple games"? As soon as I got a PS2, people wanted to borrow my DC- apparently I wouldn't be needing it anymore. Fuck no. Sure, they make me feel like an anal-retentive asshole when I don't lend stuff out, but the majority of them don't own one disc that isn't scratched to hell. I'll lend stuff to one or two of my friends who know how to take care of discs, but that's about it.

  5. My friends are extreme casual gamers so there isn't that much that they can borrow really, and if they could I guess I wouldnt let them. It sucked when you where younger and people borrowed nes games and ruined the box.

  6. I thought this thread was about Friends...

  7. I just tell them to fuck off.

They're your games, and if they pull that: "I lent you 2 games, now I should get some?" you should say: "So you only lent me those 2 games to get a favor in return then, huh?"

See what happens. They're you're games in the end, and you're property. You wouldn't let somebody borrow your car because they left theirs at your house while they were drunk, would you?

  8. This past summer, I let one friend borrow my Dreamcast and another friend borrow my PS2. I got my PS2 back last week.

The reason I let my friend borrow my PS2 was because he let me borrow his Playstation with 50+ games for a couple of months a couple of years back.

Dunno why I let the other friend borrow the DC :/

That's one thing that I have never understood, nor will I ever...what goes through someone's head that they it is okay to lend out something that doesn't belong to them.

Reminds of me an incident - Remember the issue of EGM that had a drawing of Kitana, Mileena, Baraka, Kung Lao, and Kintaro from MK II on the cover w/ a yellow background? Well, I loaned it to this guy so he could read it during one period in school..and we'd agreed...I get my book back in 55 minutes, meet me here. Not hard, right? Wrong.

Okay, so after class, I go to the designated spot to get my book, and what does he tell me? "My friend wasn't done with it, so he's keeping it overnight so he can finish drawing the cover." Oh, I blew up and chewed him out something proper. Honestly, I was red-eyed and the guy was honestly concerned that I'd kick his ass. That led to one of my only incidents of being late to class ever....I made him take me to the guys next class and get the book back. The kid to me, "I don't know what class he's in". I remember yelling, "you better damn well get to fucking looking". Here it is, 20 minutes after class began, and I'm trailing him as we go from class to class peeking in the window to see if he could find the person he lent it to. He didn't though, but he knew I was serious about getting it back. Luckily for him, the guy brought the book back in the same condition in which I loaned it out.

I never loaned mine out for that reason.

I have one friend that I have no idea on earth why I keap loaning him things. We are really close and I guess I keap thinking "man its been a year sense he did so and so, maybe he will have grown up and be able to get back to me <insert prized thing here> in the condition I loaned it" WRONG

I loaned him my bootleg copy of Transformers the movie in middle school. It litterly took him forever to get it back to me, wait no, after forever I went to his house and had to take it out of his grubby little hands.

I loaned him the same bootleg copy years later. Its highschool, surely he is grown up and can get it back to me? WRONG. He tries to copy the copy and f^cks up both copies.

Later I loaned him a HARD back copy of the chronicals of Amber. Sure, he can get this back to me in its orginal condition, its a hard back for Chriss sake. Wrong again, he gave it back to me and he had turned the black cover white. He must be the only person in the world that bends hard back books covers back when they read. He did buy me a new copy though (after I almost went MAD).

Then a year later I loaned him a copy C:SOTN. -_- I got it back this year (im in college now) scratched and no backing to the case. Just a scratched disk and the cover to the manual.
