Ugh. Random dungeon/tamagotchi games make me want to kill things. Usually everyone involved in making and selling me said games. If Azure Dreams was 3D everyone would piss all over it like they do Time Stalkers.

Time Stalkers plays like Azure Dreams? Shit! I better take that fucker out of shrink and pop it in the DC, stat!

Azure Dreams rocks! Oh, and Vandal Hearts II is awful, BTW.

Sure does. It is sorta like Azure Dreams but with a party, and really really crummy production values (it just feels kinda cheesy all around).

Still pretty cool, but I got bored with it and never got very far.

Not true. Some of the battle are your standard "kill 'em all" type, but others have interesting little objectives in them. There's one where you enter this village and discover that the inhabitants are being controlled by several cursed statues located in different sections of the town. The villagers begin to attack you. You have to avoid killing them, since they have no control over their actions- if you kill more than a handful, you lose. What makes this harder is that every time someone attacks you, you automatically counter-attack so you have to try to avoid the villagers entirely. There's a way to lure them to an area and then block off the area with a crate (thus making them take the long way around to get to you) and then fight a running battle to destroy all the mind-controlling statues before the villagers catch up with you. A brilliantly designed level.

Another good example is the train level- you're on a train, and every few turns the last car is released, and you can say good bye to anyone (friend or foe) who is still standing on that car. You have to not only fight your way to the locomotive, but constantly move your troops forward or lose them.

Yet another great level is one where you attack a fortress. The only way to getover the wall is two elevators, one on the lsft side of the wall and one on the right. However, here's the twist- only one character can fit on an elevator at a time, and the elevator operates by raising one while lowering the other (left side goes up, right side goes down, and so on). Meanwhile, enemy archers are raining arrows down on you while you huddle against the fortress walls, sending one character up and over the wall at a time. Very cool.

I just never could get into Vandal Hearts.

I love srpgs...but something about it never "clicked" for me.

Mil was the only one worth talking to. She was funny. the "stalker" character.

I like when the girls would ask what would you do if they were a damashii. I'd always say , "Then I'd have to defeat you!" and the date would end. I never stopped finding this funny.

I really didn't like that game though. =\



edit: you can add me to the list of VH lovers. I think Piku meant that the game is the same whenever you play it, and not that the scenarios are all similar to each other(because they're not).

Ratchet reminded me of an anime version of Harley Quinn from the Batman cartoon.

Sorry, I think I mis-phrased that. Yeah, I know Vandal Hearts has a lot of really cool battles (I distinctly remember all of those that you listed, as they are very cool ).

But what I meant is that level-wise, every character is pretty much the same every single game. At battle 5 everyone will have the same level each time you play, battle 10 they will, 16 they will, etc. And not just level either, but equipment and everything. That’s what I meant.

And that is why I like Final Fantasy Tactics so much. Your entire party could be completely different every single game, and it just adds so much to it.

Hmm... actually, now that you reminded me of those battles I want to borrow my friends copy again. Maybe I'll enjoy it more this time around.
