Thread: SimCity 4

  1. SimCity 4

It's due to hit on the 14th, anyone else looking to pick it up? I totally forgot about the game until I saw it on the main page at ebgames.com. I read some new previews, and IGN has a big preview video up, and it looks like it's going to be the best in the series. At the very least it's going to be the best looking. But the list of improvments make the game sound really easy to get into and you have the choice of exactly how in depth you want to get into the game.

The minimum requirements list a Pentium 3 500, 64 MB of ram and a 16MB video card. It's suppost to run pretty well on an older computer, with newer stuff (over 1ghz) running it super smooth. I'm building my new computer this weekend and I can't wait for it! Been awhile since I've played a Sim game.

Im gonna wait to see exactly what it is so different about this game. Ultimately, SimCity 3000 was exactly the same as SimCity 2000, which was exactly the same as SimCity. None of the games have really done much different from each other - all the changes never really affected gameplay. Judging by this preview, though, it looks to play exactly the same as the old ones.

If SimCity 4 puts in some good new stuff that is not related to its connectivity to The Sims, I might pirate it or something.

Sim City 3000 pissed me off to no end for being so lackluster (especially after the Top 5 PC Games Ever effort that was Sim City 2000) so I'm rather hesitant about Sim City 4. It looks pretty sweet though...

  4. I agree, Sim City 3000 was a piece of crap. I'm really looking forward to SC4 though, I just hope it isn't as stupid (which, coincedentilly, is my hope for all games ).
Buy Yakuza and Oblivion. Help yourself, help TNL.

  5. I skipped over 3000, when I saw it it felt too much like a cop out. It didn't add much and seemed to get too complicated to have any real staying power with me (I wasn't into laying down water lines). So I haven't played this series in awhile, but what I've read makes me really excited for it. Too be honest, I was sold when I saw the screenshot of the tornado whipping around the cows.

I'll be sure to let you know how it is in a few days. I hope it comes in on Tuesday.

So everyone can see, look at those cows fly!

  6. I really liked SimCity 3000. I should install it again. I thought it was pretty much spot on. I never played 2000, and played the first one aeons ago.

But I have no desire to get 4. It's just one of those games where I'm perfectly content with what I got, kinda like Crazy Taxi. I'll grab it when it's in the bargain bins.

  7. Talk about an underwhelming thread response...

That aside, I'm not too big a fan of SimCity, never have been. I prefer my god-game style closer to Black and White, where I play an actual God.

I guess there's no real buzz for this one. Then again most people are console players here, few PC title threads get a lot of attention here. Black and White was really cool, but it wasn't fun for very long. The killer was the damn people, they couldn't do shit for themselves! You constantly had to baby sit them or they'd starve! And it's really hard to raise a creature to be good. Too easy to just let him go and smash stuff, eat people and take a dump on the people's houses. Actually, that was pretty funny.

  9. I've been looking forward to it for a long time. I haven't played a Sim game other than The Sims Online since the original Sim City for the SNES (or whatever that version was!) and I loved the game. The new play mechanics such as getting into actual city planning and the new graphics would be enough for me to pick it up.

  10. The Jan. 14 street sate was treated as a joke, and broken by several retailers. If you're itching to get a copy look around. You may find it. I want it, but I want to see if it's any different then Good old Sim City. Still playing that after all these years.
This is MY world, I just let you all live in it.
