Just got home from the Animal Collective show. Opening bands were a rather good Noise band called "Diamonds" And I mean good in terms of Noise Bands so take that as...well whatever.
And then a fucking awful band called Ariel Pink. They were by far the most annoying band to watch I have ever seen. The lead singer was god awful, he did this whole walk back and forth "tortured artist" bit. Constantly clenching his hands like it was all so deep and complex. Plus all four band members sung at the same time, all with the same shitty New Wave fake british rich kid voice, but with ehcos and static added to it. Just shitty.
Animal Collective was great! Really fun to watch and listen to. But the shitty scene kids had to be sticks in the mud as usual and REFUSE to move to the music. I don't get it, they go to the show and know what the band is like, and yet refuse to get into it. Animal Collective live is like stumbling onto a native tribe in the jungle going crazy. How you can't jump around is BEYOND me. There were like 10 people there actually moving about, the rest of the entire place stood and did not move. After the show I ran into the guitarist and said to him, "Sorry for the crappy crowd not jumping around." and he replied "Yeah, some shows people get it, others like this one just don't I guess."
Also I guess you have to expect to see like 15 emo kid ass cracks at every concert now. Pull up the girl pants dummies!

Yeah, Diamonds was pretty fucking good.Originally Posted by Clash!
Holy shit, Ariel Pink was the worst band I've ever had the misfortune of witnessing. I went outside for most of their set, I couldn't handle it.Originally Posted by Clash!
The crowds at every "indie" show are all tame, except at DFA 1979. They had the tables in the middle of the floor there, and the pit knocked a table into me and someone I was there with. At every other show, everyone just stands there.Originally Posted by Clash!
I loved Animal Collective, their set was so primal and raw. I would've listened to them play all night. I hate AA shows though, too many damn children that dress up and pretend to be cool.
It very well could have been me who knocked that table into you. But I really had no other option, because that pit kind of appeared all of a sudden. I was standing at a table, and Romantic Rights kicked in and I was pushed, and well that table went skidding to the side, stools and all.Originally Posted by basemies
I was pretty suprised that they were playing electric guitars though. Considering that Sung Tongs is all accoustic guitars, it made some of the songs sound quite different. Also was suprised they did not play "Who could win a rabbit" unless somehow I did not recognize it with the extra fuzz.I loved Animal Collective, their set was so primal and raw. Animal Collective were excellent when I saw them last year. They're a terrific live band. Though their set wasn't as long as I would have liked, as they had to make way for Black Dice, who got my friends and I to leave five minutes into their thing. Yeah, yeah, some of Black Dice's recordings can be interesting, but they are fucking TEDIOUS live.
I'd go see AC again on this leg of the tour they're currently doing, but it seems they're not hitting the west coast.
I'm so happy right now. I just stumbled on a bootleg from an Appleseed Cast show i was at 1-25-03. It was one of my favorite shows ever. I'm listening to it now trying to hear myself or my friends in the background. At the end they rocked out for 12 minutes with one of the most awesome drum solos i've ever seen. I can't wait to hear it again.
Just got back about 30 minutes ago from seeing The Black Keys at Trees in Dallas. The opening band "The Henchmen" set new lows for opening acts. They're like a go-go rock band where all the singers suck, and the "lead" of the band has a keyboard on f'n wheels. I mean, I've seen some pretty lame acts in my life, but this was like a whole new world of crapiness.
The Black Keys are simply amazing to watch in person. They went for about 1.5 hours, playing songs from all 3 albums and putting everything into it. Patrick was hitting his cymbal so hard with a tambourine that the thing kept going back on 2 legs, and almost fell over once. I really can't recommend seeing them in concert enough. They just started their Rubber Factory tour about a week ago, so check and see if anything you're close to is on the list. They play Austin tomorrow and Houston the next day, and head east from there.
Yeah, I saw The Black Keys about a year ago, they put on a great show. Too bad there's no concert dates in Iowa on this tour.Originally Posted by Schlep

Awesome, I'm going to Sounds of Underground here on the 26th, already ordered my tickets.Originally Posted by Lobo
Was a little hungry from the show last week so I went to a metal-core show last night:
God Forbid, Caliban, Sworn Enemy and Full Blown Chaos
It was alright, the mosh wasn't my thing as I didn't want to get punched in the face so I kept out and the music was decent. Was nowhere near as good as the Dark Tranquillity show last week though.
