Thread: The GameGo "invasion" in retrospect

  1. Well, I was here from the start, and I took a several month vacation from the boards because of the influx of GG'ers making themselves at home. I can't remember when or why I came back, but honesty, I have never seen a better community on the net of this size. I guess its the mixture of good moderation and interesting community members.

  2. It's really interesting for me as a newcomer to see how much of this sites history, personality and overall attitude is tied into GG. I always thought, until recently anyhow, that this site used to be GG, because so much of you kept reffering back to the GG days. However, after hearing that they were seperate sites existing almost simultaniously makes it all the more interesting, and perplexing, that this site has a GG skin. I use it not because of its history but because I like the interface/color scheme, now however I feel as though I have no right to use it.

  3. I came here from Game Go, and I don't really know how. Game Go went down the crapper and everyone was like, "We are all going here" and I was like, ok. I had never even heard of TNL before but suddenly I was there everyday. TNL is much better then GG if you ask me. Its got a much better set of people, and better discussion.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  4. Certaintly the controversy at TNL is greatly reduced in comparison to GameGo and the financial distaster that I have heard that was. I never felt I was invading TNL because upon my arrival I mainly lurked for a couple weeks before actively posting.

I have been out of playing console games for about 2 odd years now (something which at times is very strange to believe) and only play a couple PC games - so I had nothing to contribute to the actual meat of the discussion at the Game boards - only to Sound Off - which probably explains why its taken people around here a lot longer to know or notice me than it has for people who post at the game board. I do not mind however, as these things usually resolve itself over time.

I only wish that getting along with people and having good discussions with articulacy unfound in vocal speech is as easy to accomplish in person.

  5. ...

Well I was in on the launch of GameGO! and dealt with a lot of the crap on those boards--it was really a very snotty place for gamers not in the know--sure there were cool people, but even ECM carried an air of superiority with each post....and people were totally gung ho about not wanted non-subscribers to post on the boards...I did subscribe and feel that it was worth the price to eventually get here...

So I was part of the influx of GGers after the boards died and I felt much more at ease on these boards--not nearly as many trolls and if there is a question about games or systems--someone on this board has the answer...so yeah, I came because I had too, but stayed because I've learned so much on here...

  6. The coolest thing I can think of? Back when people were flocking over here, I remember some people not even wanting to recognize TNL as its own, and continually made reference that they were, and always would be, GameGO! and were just here as a temp replacement.

Now, there's a better unity about. I don't know whether it's because people recognize TNL as 'home' or if they just fell off the face of the earth. =p

Wait... are you trying to tell me that this isn't the GameGO! forums?

  8. Hmm, yeah, I registered here when the GG board was acting screwy and someone posted a link... so I was technically here before the mass exodus when GG went kerflop.

It's really nice to have had one central place to go when the ship sank, rather than just dispersing into a lot of lesser fragmented factions.

A long overdue personal hats off to Bahn for welcoming us all, despite the headaches it caused.

  9. yes i'm sure in due time that TNL would have had its own fanbase had the gamego exodus not occured - but admittedly it helped speed things along.

  10. To be honest when it happened it pissed me off. I liked what the Forum was, it was small, but not tiny, we knew each other and had some interesting discussions. Then the GGs invaded and the place was turned upside down. People who I had no prior reference to were acting like they owned the place, for no good reason. I chose not to be a prick about it because it's Bahns board and if he was willing to let things go that way then who was I to tell him otherwise. Then the name of the board got changed to GameGo. Another change I wasn't exactly happy with, but that didnt upset me as much. Then I saw the board get overloaded and slowed down due to stupid and repetitive topics, that strangely weren't here before the migration, or not in the vast numbers that appeared following. I started to wonder just why I was still coming around.

Then a funny thing happened. I noticed that numerous people who made for good discussion partners had arrived. People who's posts I enjoyed reading, and even occasionally responding too. The people who came in and realized they were in fact not on the GameGo board any longer seemed to fit in just fine. And those who didn't, well they no longer bother me as they aren't in the majority any more. I'd still rather it hadn't happened. In fact I'm sure they would rather it hadn't happened (as that would mean GameGo would still be up and all that jazz). But it did, and we've made the best of the situation.
