Every category has their funny little radical group. I mean, sure, I know most of us righties have a more traditional view of morals and society, but nobody should be telling anybody how to live unless it's illegal in some way.
Another way to reflect the radical group...the left has Marxists and Socialists, but I'm not gonna assume EVERY Democrat/Liberal/whatever is that extreme.
As for the Democrat Party or Platform or however you call it...the big thing they seem to play for is the victicrat mindset. You can do whatever you want, and no, you're not responsible for any bad actions. The only reason anyone does anything wrong is because someone somewhere screwed that person up in their past. Unemployment of the individual isn't because the individual isn't a good worker, or is lazy, or anything like that. Heavens no - its because employers discriminate, and are greedy, and need to be torn from their ivory towers. Or something.
I really don't understand it - I was always taught that you stick to your guns and you can get through anything and go anywhere. That and employers will always hire a good worker if they have a position open. But the kind of 'victim' mindset allows for self-oppression. A person can't likely improve themself or their bearing in life if they think its someone else's fault for their position. So who's to swoop and save them, the ever-insignificant number in the grand scheme of things? Well, something larger than one, for sure. So in comes the government, to safeguard the victim and keep the 'little guy' happy.
Follow that, and you have why Yoshi pointed out that - it really has nothing to do with morals or conservative values (well, it could, but...). What's at issue here are parents who are 'overwhelmed' by the pressures of raising a child. One or two parents can't possibly do it alone, up against a world that hurls corruptable media at their youth? So they need someone to save them - in comes the government. Why, you ask?
Let's say Timmy goes and kills 20 people. Timmy also plays GTA3 compulsively. Now, is it the fault of the parents, who didn't see the problem before it manifested, or did the game make him do it? Well, of course it's the game - I mean, parents can't possibly be expected of watching their children - and ALL THE TIME? Heck no, they need that helping hand.
At least, that's the view from Cali. I'm sure there's just as many conservatives who pitch a fit and demand censorship, but on a more 'moral' ground, whatever that is. However, the core of what it is (or is supposed to be) to be on the right is to take personal responsibility over anything else. That means good or bad, you need to be able to do without a Big Brother. Now is it just me or is the left the other way, saying that a larger government is essential, because no one could possibly make due on their own in this crazy mixed-up world?
Meh, paragraphs of ranting and I still can't make up my mind...

Apparently Yoshi and Hero have never heard of Sam Brownback, nor did they see the post-Columbine Senate hearings in 1999.

This whole thing would be a lot easier if I just bludgeoned them for a while with something large and heavy. Like a cinder block, maybe with a car battery tied to it.
And then just let me make the desicion. We all know I'd make the proper choice, right?
politicians suck.
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!
For the most part, I'll bet there were a few polititions behind the scene attempting to do this. It seems they won't stop until they succeeded in turning our country into one giant brady-bunch community, then I should ask god do us the favor of sending in the apocolypse early.Directly targeting gaming companies, you see, would be a fool's mission for politicians. The St. Louis ruling notwithstanding, any government effort to dictate what developers put into a game would be a blatant violation of the First Amendment. Putting the onus on retailers is safer legally, but raises some issues of its own.
I'm at least thankful we can still buy games for young adults. Just as long as they don't get the idea to pass on a law that's simular to showing porn to a minor (a law like this would be "un-american!!")
I am over 18.
I dont work in a game store anymore.
So, basically, I dont give a fuck if this bill becomes a law or not. It does not matter to me, nor does it affect me, in the slightest.

Im sure all the non-teeny boppers here at TNL will agree with me.
I've noticed that ratings for games of violence is far more lenient than ratings for sex or nudity than it is for the movie industry.
It's ok to kill and maim a bunch of people in the most violent manner but to see a pair of titties is far far worse. Oh no!! God forbid they see a pair of titties rather than go on a rampage and run over 1000 people and gun down an entire population.
Stuff that would be pg for movies, is treated like an R rating for games, all because of the misconception that gaming is a kiddy thing and game machines are toys. If the parents need to protect thier children the videogame industry needs to educate them better on what games are suitable for little kids or the parents have to find out what their kids are doing. In the future games are going to get more and more violent and contain more adult themes (gamers are aging now, there will be more people in thier 30s playing then before) so it's only going to get worse when all the parents start blaming (sueing) the industry (which makes lots of These: $$$) for thier kids doing silly things that have nothing to do with games. Plus the media will benefit from this since they need a story and are usually very uninformed about gaming themselves. (seen as anti-social activity. Face it we are all mysterious hermits with violent tendancies obsessed with our killing simulators and never go out in public)

The Homeland Security Act is like something out of Stalin-era Russia, and it was drafted, and heavily supported, by conservatives. Of course, if those 87 Democrats who voted yes had any balls, it wouldn't have passed. In their own stupid, weak way, the Democrats pushed it through Congress along with the Republicans. Spineless cunts.
It has nothing to do with telling someone what your family values should be. That's the whole point. The Jackass party wants to run your family for you. How is that not telling you what is right and wrong?Originally posted by Melf
How can anyone say that telling people how to live their lives is a staple of the democratic party?
I swear, if I hear another conservative tell me what my family values should be and how the "left" is the cause for all the bad in this country. I'll puke.
