Thread: Five Favorite Presidents

  1. Sorry, Jimmy - I got rid of the two political posts I made. You're right, this thread's better off without that sort of discussion.

  2. 1- FDR
    2- TR
    3- Jefferson
    4- Kennedy
    5- Lincoln

FDR had, IMO, the hardest presidency of all. To deal with running a country through the Great Depression and WWII takes balls. Even Polio could not stop this man. Truly a great leader.

Teddy Roosevelt had an energy and determination like none other. His work for conservation, as well as strengthening the U.S. around the world has to be recognized.

Jefferson did all the great things Nick mentioned. He was also a student of many sciences and a great inventor. He had vision well beyond his time.

Kennedy did a lot of good in his short time as president. Staring down Kruschev, getting the ball rolling for civil rights, and bringing a sense of magic to the presidency are all things I admire him for. Hey, anyone who tapped Marilyn Monroe gets my vote! Of course then I'd have to vote for half the country....

Lincoln was an excellent leader who held the country together and showed compassion to the south when others wanted revenge.

I also think Clinton, Carter, and Wilson are presidents that history will one day honor for the good things they did. Wilson and Carter were very good leaders who just had too much shit happening against them. Clinton ran the country with his zipper open but he ran things pretty well.

I specifially asked people not to get political in this thread. I'll delete this post when his is gone.
Sorry JC, we don't delete posts for reasons like that.

Asking people to list their five favorite presidents is an inherently political question. So far the politically-tinged posts have been nothing to get excited about.

Part of this anti-punctuation thing I got going.

  5. 1. Bill Clinton on Conan O'Brien: That wacky hillbilly, he says the most outrageous things! Ooh, and he's got an eye for the ladies!

    2. Bill Clinton on SNL: He's got more moves than Michael Jackson, and they all involve his lower lip and thumbs.

    3. Gearge Bush on SNL (animated short): Pretty spry for an old guy.

    4. Ronald Reagan on SNL (animated short): Disrespects unconstitutional behavior!

    5. George W. Bush on SNL: He's dumb, get it? Ha ha...ugh.

...as you can see, I've learned everything I know about politics from television, in the loosest sense that the word "learn" can encompass.

I actually think my 'politically-tinged' posts are the least dull in this whole thread.

You're a joke - hey, make a thread about something you believe in politically so I can tell you what I really think about the statements you've made in this thread.

  10. 5 Greatest Presidents

5 - FDR. Brought the United States out of the Depression and helped to over see the victory over the axis powers. Sadly he died before this was finalized.

4 - Ronald Reagan. Bombed the fuck out of Libya, made the country respect itself again.

3 - Teddy Roosevelt. For taking the presidency by the neck and using it to actually lead the nation instead of just following where the wind was blowing. For going down to Panama and building the Canal, allowing for future economic growth and military security by cutting the route by more than half and by removing the safety issue of travelling around the Argentine and Chilean coastlines. Did more in his seven and a half years than most any other president. Doesn't rank higher because he goofed in selecting a successor who wound up rolling back most of his reforms.

2 - George Washington. Started it all, gave up the chance to be king for life when he dismissed the army after the Revolution ended. Did other stuff too. All with wooden teeth

1 - Abraham Lincoln. Saved the Union by not allowing those who wanted to avoid war at all costs to cost the world its future. Abolished slavery. Managed to NOT go to war with England and France when the CSA was desperately trying to get them involved. Looks spiffy on the penny.
