LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "Baywatch" alumna Pamela Anderson and her boyfriend of nearly a year, recording star Kid Rock, are engaged to marry, a spokeswoman for the actress said on Friday.
"They got engaged last night in Las Vegas, out in the desert," publicist Marleah Leslie told Reuters. "It was only the two of them."
No wedding date was set, Leslie added.
She said Kid Rock, 31, born Robert James Ritchie, presented the 34-year-old former Playboy Playmate with a ring, "but I don't know what it looks like."
The couple have been dating since May last year, when they met at a party following VH-1's "Divas Live" tribute to Aretha Franklin, at which Kid Rock performed.
"We just sat down and started talking," he recalled in an earlier interview. "The next thing you know, she's on a plane to Detroit."
Anderson is embroiled in a fight with her ex-husband, former Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, over custody of their two children, Dylan and Brandon.
The two divorced in 1998 following his arrest for striking the Canadian-born actress. The incident occurred in the driveway of their Malibu, California home in February of that year.
He later pleaded no contest to spousal abuse and was sentenced to six months in jail and three years' probation. In April 1999, Anderson said she and Lee were attempting a reconciliation, but the couple parted ways again.
The actress made headlines last month when she publicly disclosed she was being treated for the potentially fatal liver disease hepatitis C, which she claimed to have contracted by sharing a tattoo needle with Lee.
Lee's publicist issued a denial, saying he "has never had hepatitis C or any sexually transmitted diseases."
Kid Rock, who hails from the Detroit area, shot to stardom with his 1998 album "Devil Without a Cause," which featured the hit "Bawitdaba" and sold more than 10 million copies in the United States. He is now touring to promote his follow-up release, "Cocky," and the single "Lonely Road of Faith."
Anderson, who stars in the syndicated television series "V.I.P.," told the TV magazine "Extra" in February that she planned to retire soon to spend more time with her children and Kid Rock. "He is the best person I have ever met," she said then. "He's got the whole thing. He's the rock star, father, lover, sweetheart."
Kid Rock has an 8-year-old son from a previous relationship.
