Thread: How I got Hired at GF

  1. Very Cool.

For me, it's about a lot of things. I moved to the US at 5 years old, have lived here for 25 years, so, by all accounts, I'm an American now (with Dual Citizenship).

I think it's time to give something back to the country that I've had a very good time in, and, at 30, I've got 5 years before I can never do it again.

I've taken the ASVAB, going to take the Language Aptitude Test soon, and will take the physical in a few months when I get past the no smoking and get into better shape.

Once that's done, I'm going in for at least 4 years.

To each his own, but, this is the next path that seems right for me. Plus, it'll make mom's even prouder of me, and that's a good thing.

  2. What ever your reasons for doing it, I support you 100%...just so long as you keep in touch as often as you can.

    I second that.

  4. I'll certainly drop by and say hello here in time, or at the very least, give mom's the account info and have her post something or whatnot.

I've been considering doing something similar to what you once did for a long time.

Thanks for the story... always good to hear about others in similar situations succeed. Thanks.

  6. That's a pretty awesome story man. Like Brisco, that fate comment really hit me. It's cool that you had the confidence to post something like that, because, quite honestly, I don't think I could talk about it with anyone here.

  7. Good luck with giving up smoking.

  8. Yeah, the smoking thing, isn't going to be easy.

    2 packs a day...

I'm just going to stop it Sunday. For me, it's about desire alone. How badly do I want to go in the Army and do it as best I can? Bad enough to kick the habit.

I'm sure I'll be an irritable mess, so I'll lock myself in my room for a couple days with some games I haven't played.

I dig, but, the fact is, I got nothing to hide. If I post that, and people call me lame or a moron, that's fine. That's the worst they can do, and that's not very much at all.

I'm certainly not for the wholesale posting of intimate details of anyone's life, but, for me, I thought that perhaps the end result of the story, would negate the overshare portion of it.

  9. The only bad thing I can see of this, is that other posters will start to post uninteresting stories about their lives:

"How I made it through puberty."
"How I got hired at Denny's"
    "How I got mono"

    and such and so forth.

You set a dangerous precedent my friend. Slippery slope!

  10. Indeed, but if it could help someone, and give them a new perspective or feel relative to them, perhaps it is worth it.
