Thread: The Shrouded Isles crush the competition

  1. The Shrouded Isles crush the competition

Mythic Entertainment has announced that Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles, its first expansion pack to the fastest growing online game of all time, was the top-selling online game for December 2002 and the 15th top selling PC game, according to NPD Techworld. Since its release in early December 2002, the game has sold over 111,000 copies, easily beating Electronic Arts' The Sims Online in the race for dominance of online gaming.

Shrouded Isles extends the story and enhances the action of Dark Age of Camelot with new character classes, new races, and three new continents, displayed in an all- new graphics engine, with the ultimate in visual effects. The expansion also features a revamped user-interface, and an all-new ambient music system that randomly constructs musical expressions based on the player’s location and time of day. Other graphical improvements in Shrouded Isles include almost one hundred new monster models and almost 400 hundred new weapon, armor, and shield graphics - but the additions in this expansion are more than skin deep. Shrouded Isles has many new quests, thousands of new monster encounters, and an innovative artificial intelligence system enabling monsters to behave and attack in deadly new ways.

  2. Is anybody on these boards playing this game?

Is it as good as the hype?

  3. Yeah I got it. Its pretty fun to play I guess - kinda depends how you feel about the whole mmorpg scene. My first mmorpg was PSO so i didnt really know what to expect coming in to this game - but the expansive environments, numerous enemies , numerous assorted classes to play , tons or rare equipment to find etc. had me pretty psyched the first time I played it. Grouping and Realm vs. Realm (You choose between a realm to play Albion-English type realm , Hibernia Irish type realm , or Midgard Norwegian/swedish type realm and battle against all players in other realms on the side from leveling and questing)is fun as well although the newer classes in Shrouded Isles kind of outmuscle some of the older ones , new patches are always going up to remedy this, add quests, and fix any other bugs < Sega take note >

Ive never played EQ but ive heard it compared to that a lot -- but also from what I heard kill stealing and LONG drawn out camping, waiting on certain monsters to spawn for rares /quests was a downside to EQ which DAOC doesnt have ( well much of at least, Ive camped some enemies for a while but not in the days range like supposedely EQ ....).

Other downside to Dark Ages is joining a guild is pretty much a must -- as later RvR outings and High level monster hunts require some major grouping / alliances -- so if you dont join a decent guild you pretty much can get left in the dark so to speak..

But yeah its worth a try - if you dig PSO youll probably dig this too...
