Thread: Do you believe in god?

  1. I just beleive in me... yoko and me... and that's reality

    I'm agnostic..

...but like Dolemite I believe in "self".

on that note, here are the lyrics to "god" by John Lennon:

    god is a concept
    by which we measure
    our pain
    i'll say it again
    god is a concept
    by which we measure
    our pain

    i don't believe in magic
    i don't believe in i-ching
    i don't believe in bible
    i don't believe in tarot
    i don't believe in hitler
    i don't believe in jesus
    i don't believe in kennedy
    i don't believe in buddha
    i don't believe in mantra
    i don't believe in gita
    i don't believe in yoga
    i don't believe in kings
    i don't believe in elvis
    i don't believe in zimmerman
    i don't believe in beatles
    i just believe in me
    yoko and me
    and that's reality

    the dream is over
    what can i say?
    the dream is over
    yesterday
    i was the dreamweaver
    but now i'm reborn
    i was the walrus
    but now i'm john
    and so dear friends
you just have to carry on
    the dream is over

I always thought that was a really beautiful song, espcially the part I made bold.

I guess someone or something had to start this whole mess. Things just don't appear out of nowhere.

  3. I believe that the debates were settled on this thread of mine. http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/s...god+vs+science

As for your question, I'm not sure.

  4. God? i'll believe it when i see it.

oh, and i cant believe theres another topic about this. i expected better from you, Dolemite.

but like ive said before: theres no proof that god does exist, but theres no proof that he doesnt exist. and thus, i keep an open mind. i'd call myself a secularist, but thats not really the right term.

  5. What is the term for where your just not sure. There could be a god or there could not be. I guess Id be that.

You sound pretty "agnostic" to me.

  7. I believe in God, but I tend to think of myself as spiritual than religious. I recently saw a movie called Soul Survivor which made me think about hell and death differently.

We all will of course find out when we die. Hell, heaven, second earth, reincarnation, or nothingness. I do feel we have shown that we are incapable of co-existing with ourselves and with the planet. If WWIII starts with Iraq, I just hope none of us makes it. Humanity has had it coming for a while....

I personally think nothingness would be heaven. What could be better after a hectic life of existence than an eternal, everlasting peace?

  9. I read a really good book recently and while it is not a religious book by any means it raises some interesting issues regarding religion. The book is "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel. It is excellent and I highly recommend it. The boy in the story was very interested in religion and wanted to be a practicing Hindu, Muslim, and Christian (and got in trouble for trying to!) because he loved God in all forms. That's just one aspect of the book though - if you haven't read it, you should!

    Read more about it here.

I consider myself agnostic, by the way. I believe in John Lennon too.

  10. I find it all to hard to believe, much like people in the early centuries, did'nt know the world was round, until one day someone went out and discovered it. The same with the universe. People of past civilizations made statues, monuments and references to the stars. Those civilizations passed and newer religions like Judism, Christianity, and Musslums exist.

I think there are too many different beliefs and to call any one of them the right belief, would be ludacrous.

I can say however, that I believe we have a spirit form, or at least some kind of cosmic signature. I can honestly say, that I had an out of body experience, when a jackass put a sleeper hold on me, from behind. I saw myself sliding to the floor, and as soon as he let go, I was back in my body. One of the weirdest things I've ever experienced, so I can honestly believe we are beyond this flesh we wear.

I kind of believe, that history repeats itself and that this might not be the first, second or even third time we've lived our lives. The universe has probably expanded and collapsed so many time, that maybe we are living our moment in time, over and over again. Can you explain how some people can see into the future? My sister did it when she was around 5. Everytime she would say something that my parents just did'nt understand, it would all make sence, when the events started to happen. I too experienced a sort of Deja Vu on many occasions, but don't remember the dreams, until the events start to unfold. It's pretty trippy shit, and makes you wonder how people see into the future.
