Thread: Full Sail by Orlando......

  1. I'm an Audio Engineer, so I don't really know much about their game development program; but the are considered the best in the industry for audio engineers. Most of the big studios (multi-million $$$ instilations) in my city won't even look at you if you don't have either:

    A. Several years expirience in a comprable studio
    or
    B. Have graduated Full Sail.

It really is that big a deal. You get to use all the best gear, with world class instruction. The student to teacher ratio is 6 to 1 tops. They also have VERY good job placement, at least in my field.

The most obvious downside is the cost. It is incredibly expensive. Also, I wouldn't think about pursuing it if you don't at least have a basic skill set in the field you will be studying. Personally I won't be attending Full Sail myself for several reasons, but most of my friends have either attended, or will be in the fall. You can do a lot worse, but it's not for everyone. It will take over you life due to the projects and weird class times, so make sure you're willing to give up 13 months (if you go full time). Anyway, hope that helps.

How expensive is incredibly? Ballpark per credit, how many credits do you need? Like $400 a cred? $500?

  3. yeah what the hell is the cost of this place? i couldnt find it anywhere on their site.

  4. Well, I was actually talking to a friend this afternoon up at school (I work in the lab) who has been accepted for the fall, and he gave me a few prices. Please note that this is all second hand so I can't say much for sure as to their current rates, but the guy is a very good friend with no reason to lie to me. In fact he's trying to get me to go out there and room with him. Anyway, cheapest program they have is Live Sound Reinforcement at $27,000 for the full 13 month program. The program he is looking at is over $40,000 for the entire program. Most expensive program is 3D animation, if I recall correctly. Game Design falls somewhere in the middle.

So like I said, it's really expensive. Flip side is many ppl can get jobs coming straight out of there making more than enough to justify it. Just the same, pretty darn pricey.

  5. All I know is that my parents are paying an assload for my brother to be going there. He loves it though, so I guess that's all that matters.

Poor parents, they have to pay for my brother and I back to back.

  6. id like to know how much that digital media program is. also is it possible to get more money in your loan to cover living expenses? i know i wouldnt want to get a job while im there.

  7. So we're guessing $45k?

Pass. I'd just as soon go to CMU.

At least there, as mentioned, I know it could eventually be upped to a PhD (if one ever exists).

  8. never mind i just talked to a rep and he said the digital media program is $32,000. wow.
