Thread: Dreamcast VMU question.

  1. Dreamcast VMU question.

Upon booting up my DC recently, I noticed that the blue liquid stored within the screen of the VMU I was using had started leaking from one side of the screen, giving the appearance of blue 'bleeding' across the VMU's display. I turned off my DC, and left my VMU to sit for a while, figuring it may be a temporary problem. The bleeding of liquid disappeared after a while. Unfortunately, though, as soon as I started using the VMU in my DC again, the bleeding occurred again.

Has anyone had a similar problem, and been able to fix it? Is this something Sega would be best asked to fix up, or could a 3rd party repairer do it? Any advice is appreciated.

VMUs are $5-10 now. Pitch it and get a new one.

  3. Buy a new VMU or used and transfer your files to it, then chuck that old one. I mean it's only $10.

  4. Even if the screen goes dead you can still use the VMU, but if you need the screen you are going to have to buy a new one. It would be far more expensive to repair it than replace it.

  5. It sucks but, hell, you should be stock piling DC stuff anyways. It's dirt cheap and in 5 years time you'll be paying absurd amounts of money for a "L@@K RARE!!! MINT!!! SEALED !!!! DREAMCSAT VMUR!!1".

In America. Here in Australia, they cost $50 new. That is, when you can find a store selling new VMUs.

You probably could make a bit of money out of the sale of DC games and accessories over here. Practically no one else sells them anymore. I'd thought about importing a VMU, but after international shipping and import tax had been added to its price tag, it'd probably end up a little too expensive to be worth it.
