Thread: The Official Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven thread

  1. Played the first and second missions with both Rikimaru and Ayame.

So far I prefer Ayame. She's so fucking fast. I like to dash right behind guards and pounce on them, or somersault on top of their heads from around corners.

The framerate is perfect 60 fps but there's mad slowdown in some parts. Like Dolemite said, if you drop a smoke bomb on a bunch of guards or enter/exit rapidly from a room while guards are attacking you, it's jarringly slow.

And the AI of the guards is really poor.

But still, the game is great fun.

  2. I think I'm either on the last level or damn near it. Awesome game. If you played the other games theres a couple of story elements that are cooler if you played em. I thought the game was suppose to be too easy? Seems just right too me. I'm playing on normal. I like that I can fight bosses by cheaping them with throwing weapons. I always liked that about these games. One boss kinda reminded me of a guy from Ninja Scroll....him big.

So far so DAMN good. Just need to finish it with Rikimaru then on to Ayame. Theres also a point in the game where you have to choose something. I think it changes your ending a bit.. I heard.

Yeah, I really prefer playing as Ayame too. Compared to how she was in Tenchu 1, she's blindingly fast now, and her animations are really cool. She's very cat-like in everything she does, from her crouch and roll in stealth mode to how she lands from a jump. I really dig her character design, too. I love this game more than words can say.

Oh, and I just read the OPM review that Despair talked about a page or two ago. Very negative. The reviewer must have been completely retarded. He said the two-player mode felt "tacked on" and just left it at that. What a moron. This game is brilliant.

Oh, while at EB during lunch I flipped through the Tenchu 3 guide, and uncovered a very weird yet cool secret that you unlock when you beat the game with all 3 characters...

You unlock a modern-day office building level called "Through the time portal". You start in the parking lot and you have to sneak up through the office building (patrolled by guards armed with guns) and finally do battle with the cyborg CEO of the corporation! This is certainly something I didn't expect...

BYW, anyone remember the code that the Tenchu 3 demo gave you after you beat it? I forget what it was and I lent the disc to a friend...please help!

  4. In regards to the spoiler...

Holy shit, if that really does open up I need to get my ass moving. Thats a damn cool extra!

  5. Cool Extra indeed. I will star Ayame game tonight, and while DJ plays as Rikkumaru, I will play as her.

  6. Just picked up the game. Played through level one of Rikimaru. Taste for blood satisfied for now. Will resume delivering my wrath shortly.

  7. Almost complete with the Rikimaru missions. This installment really knows how to extend out the gameplay. It has three separate characters to select, all with different variations in the missions. Then every level has three different layouts available once beaten. Each level has at least two major paths you can choose to reach the end.

Most levels can last up to a half hour, since you are taking your time, aiming for stealth kills in order to gain downright insane techniques. At the mid-point of the game, you are given a choice that will change the ending. Then there is the ranking system, throwing out Novice or Grandmaster grades. Not to mention the hidden levels and combat armor upgrades.

I think the Tenchu series has mirrored the Castlevania series so far.

Castlevania / Tenchu - Nothing quite like it on the market, stylish soundtrack and adequate graphics.
Simon's Quest / Tenchu II - Inventive, but too ambitious and too different from the last.
Castlevania III / Tenchu:WoH - Back to what made the first a hit, and adding replayability.

No, it was like that in the demo too.
