Thread: Pop 'N Music

  1. Pop 'N Music

    So... Pop 'N Music.

You don't hear much about it around these parts, but I'm not surprised. Has anyone other than Sl1p played the game in one of it's several forms [arcade, PS, PS2]? I'd love to be able to play it, but that obviously isn't exactly easy to go about doing. Watching it in action will obviously work wonders to pique one's interest:

I'm interested to know about the quality in the home ports... And as one could imagine, the quality directly correlates to what you are playing on:

    This: about $50.

    Or

This: $300-$400. [To be released in June or later.]

Has anyone had experience with the first controller? I've first seen it oh-so long ago for sale on NCS, but I could never get a good idea as to how large it is.

The latter is approximately or exactly arcade-size, supposedly.

Well, anyone have any interest in the game? I can't say I can see myself really going after it anytime too soon, but it would be cool just to have a few minutes with the game, if anything.

  2. I've always wondered what the hell this was.
Is there a site with assloads of info on how it plays in general?

  3. Well, it's a music game, obviously. I'm sure you have a general idea of what that entails: falling bars - correspond to each button - hit button when bar hits bottom of screen - blah blah etc. For a really good idea, you really must download the videos.

  4. I've played the DC version of Pop n' Music (I don't remember which version), and since I didn't have the wacky controller, I can't really judge the gameplay, but I can talk about the music, and I must say, %98 of it was pure crap.

  5. From what I can tell, it's a cuter version of IIDX with nine buttons, no turntable, and jacked up difficulty.

...Which means that I must try it.

As for the music, I've only heard a couple of songs from the game. It doesn't seem to sound as bad as I would have expected.

I should've checked it out at Ohayocon when Bemanistyle.com's dj Paranoia had it set up in the game room. =/

Edit: Oh, right. I remember the controller being somewhat smaller than the IIDX controller. It really doesn't seem like 75$ worth, but I didn't get a good look at it.

  6. I HATE the visual style and song selection of the first game for DC (the only pop'n game I have currently) but the gameplay is so much fun, nothing else matters.

PS: I needs me a DC pop'n controller. Let me know if any of you know where to get one.

PPS: If you don't plan on getting a controller, don't bother (Think DDR minus a dance pad)

  7. I'm a big fan of Pop N Music. Unfortunately, I'm forced to play it with the Dual shock until I can track down a Pop N controller for Ps2/psx. To be honest, the Dual Shock is set up nicely for PnM. I can play 9 line no problem. Dc on the other hand is another story. I was forced to play 5line because it was just too hard to use the stock controller for 9line. I actually have a pop n controller for Dc but the blue buttons are not working right so.....

Anyway, the music selection in the Dc version of PnM1 is horrid. I liked two songs on the whole thing. It's gets better as it goes though, trust me. I'm REALLY impressed with the latest outing on Ps2, Pop N Music 7. Definitely worth a look. Nice change of pace from Beatmania.

Speaking of needed controllers, I've also gotta find an official Guitar freaks controller. Why are these things so hard to track down??

Some advice to potential PnM home players. While on the subject of "hard to find", if you plan to get the Dc versions, watch out. Skip PnM1 it's a waste of time. All of the songs from PnM1 are on PnM2 and PnM1 CANNOT be used as a key disc. To play PnM 3 & 4 you need the key disc, aka PnM2. Here is the problem, PnM2 for DC is IMPOSSIBLE to find. Took a year of searching to track it down, and even then I had to settle for a used copy. Even had a friend in Japan searched and he could only find one used copy. Since PnM2 is the key disc, you need it to play 3 and 4.... Good luck

Now, the Psx releases are probably easier to track down but from what I hear, the scrolling isn't as smooth as the dc versions. In this type of game, that is important. However, you have the luxury of using the dual shock with the psx releases and there were two additional versions(not counting the side games) released on psx(5 and 6).

Blah blah blah, I'll shut up now. Hope you can make sense of this rambling nonsensical post.

  8. i have the first volume for the psx...really couldn't get into it, MAYBE the controller would have made a difference...i just rather play beatmania...

  9. If anyone needs a PS Pop'n controller, I know where to find one... But the DC controller seems nonexistent. If anyone needs to locate the softwate for either console, PM me.

Oh, Undead - Keep checking Game Choice Club for the Guitar Freaks controller. They're usually good about restocking when an item on their site says "restock soon."

  10. Pop N Music is my personal jesus.

Well, actually I'm just super addicted to the music and characters.
Smile is sooooo adorable. (mummy dude)
    I want little dolls of him, Dueil and Ash...I wish they made them ;_;
