Thread: DJ's First and 2nd and 3rd Martial Arts tournaments (Updated)

  1. Now we talking strategy

  2. Well, Last Sunday was another tournament. This one was in Milwaukee, so we didnt had to drive very far to get there, which is good.

Day prior to that, there were Big Testing at DJ's MA school, with Vice Pres of WPKA of Wisconsin, testing the student's skills, for their belts.

It was pretty cool to watch, and I was proud that DJ did very well. He got his Green belt, for which he was working VERY HARD. Lots of training and sparring was done, so he got double promoted. But now he will stay in this rank for sometime, since he got alot of stuff to learn.

So next day, DJ was ready to participate in the tourney with his new belt, and in the higher class. In Form competition, he had his new Form(Tosan) to show off, and he did it rather well. He got 2nd place, among 4 kids who were competing in his age/belt group, only loosing to High Green belt kid, who did his form very well.

After that it was Sparring time. DJ's fight was 2nd on the list, and he had to spar against the same kid that got 1st place in Forms. He was taller than DJ, but DJ had more of a speed advantage. So the fight started and was it intense. At least to me DJ scored first point after nice combo, which he finished with jump punch to the opponent's head. Fight continued, and while both tried some attack on each other, neither attack was a hit. Then DJ did another combo, and had a good hit in, but for some very strange reason, Judges didnt count that hit, and instead awarded point to the other kid. Kid wasnt even attacking at the time, nor DJ did an illegal move, or hit forbiddent area. Anyway the fight continued, and then right before time ran out, DJ scored another hit with a good punch.

After that, the fight for the 1st place started. This time the opponent was a Purple belt(blue in Taekwondo), who again was little taller than DJ, with longer leg/arm reach. But as the fight started DJ went in, and scored a nice kick. And then another one, and another and then it was all over. Score was 6 to 0. DJ was just to fast for his opponent to react, and all that hard fighting against brownbelt friend, his teacher, and another kid from his school who is like almost 2 times taller than him paid off

So he was soo happy to add his 2 new trophies to his growing throphy collection.

There will be one more tournament at the end of the month, and then things will get quiet untill Fall season. Since this one will be in Wasau, which is like 3 hour drive from where we live, we still havent decided if we will go or not.

  3. He will never get respect untill he gets a Trophy made out of skin from fallen opponents.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

Hey despair, I think thats great what your doin for your kid! DJ really reminds me of myself a few years ago at that age. I think tae kwon doe or whatever he is taking is a great sport! I remember being able to kick above my head with ease was great, and I got a real good workout from all that.

I moved and quit tae kwon doe a few years ago which I wish now that I hadn't done, but im going to be starting jujitsu this summer, and next eyar when I get into highschool I'm gonna go for judo team!

Oh, and clash's comments (as sick as they are) are pretty damned funni, I especially loved the "YOUR BLOOD AND FLESH BRING ME CLOSER TO GOD! YOUR BODY IS MY MEAL!" thing, hahaha
