Thread: PS3 to Have Processing Power of 100 PCs

  1. I really think that Sony is quickly becoming the king of poorly designed hardware.

Personally, I'd prefer they stop upping the damned chip speeds and concentrate on giving developers a better environment to work with and better hardware features.

Why do we even NEED 72 processors ? There are some amazing games out that require all of ONE. What's the point of making several trillion calculations when nothing else can keep up ?

  2. Don't they push this same rumor/hype every game cycle? Remember that M-whatever chip that was going to be in the successor to the 3DO, wasn't that an everything chip? They're always a gazillion times more powerful than any computer ever conceived....
    No gnus is good gnus.

  3. I suppose so. But the promise of a revolutionary architecture really does nothing but incite images of programmers throwing their dev kits out the window. If it was possible to make a PS system more difficult to develop for, Sony has suceeded in it.

If they go through with this kind of design, I feel it's tantamount to creating a car that can go 700mph but providing two wooden sticks as a steering mechanism.

So basically, the PS3 must be online for it to run specific games, and it needs to connect to a minimum number of other online PS3s to run these specific games?

That's absolutely fucking stupid. I've got to be reading this wrong.

  5. Ummm I agree with Mech, redesign the controller and add a few more ports, only problem I have with the system.

Be interesting to see how many companies in this industry will be able to come up with budgets for next-gen games. Serious eye-candy=serious risk. *-neo

Not born, but continued into the third generation...

I actually think they're talking about the network between the 72 individual processors. So it's more network processing rather than processing over a network type of thing... which makes far more sense.

Otherwise it would be funny as hell if the PS3 was some kind of BitTorrent based game machine

  8. I just hope the PS3 will have that built in toaster accessory I've been asking for.

  9. Someone please flush this crap down the toilet.

  10. I do...
