    It's fairly simple... What I do is create 32x32 images in Photopaint (you can use any graphics app). Then I cut and paste my work into an icon creating program called Microangelo.

    You can actually make the icons any sized and then change the icon size in Windows appearance setings....

    Anyway, I usually make them anti-aliased over a blue b/g in Photopaint and then I give them the transparents backgrounds in Microangelo, that's why they look nice on the desktop I linked...

    It's called "Dungeon". It's a very nice and versatile font.
