Saturn Mod Switch Plans.

I want to find out if it's easy to mod a Saturn with a switch to play imports. Anyone have any easy-to-follow directions for a newbie system modder?

You don't need a mod...

For LEGAL purposes, all you need is a cart.

Whats the reason for the switch? the ability to direct save? if so, go for it, if not, you're better off getting a 4 in 1 cart unless your really bored and have nothing better to do than mod a saturn

I was interested in getting the switch mod, just so I can save some cash. I have the 4meg cart from X-Men vs SF and would have liked to use that with a switch mod, but if the 4in1 cart is recommend over the switch solution, then I may have to go for the cart.

If all you have is the 4-meg, then the 4-in-1 will also net you a gigantic memory card that - unless you make it a specific goal to do so - you will never fill. That thing is awesome, and far easier to use. Plus, should you ever need a new Saturn, easy switch!

Third-party carts can stretch the Saturn's cart slot. FYI.

Also, are you guys sure 4-in-1s can be used as 100% substitutes for the real Sega save-RAM cart? I thought there was some stupid drawback like you couldn't save directly to it, only archive saves on it. A friend of mine had one and couldn't use it save his Panzer Saga game...

BenT is correct you can not directly save to the 4 in 1s but can use it to archive the saves

my 4 in 1 broke. i lost about half of my saturn save files in the process. i've never had trouble with the official sega cart, though.

Do the switch mod- its reliable and basically cost free.

Listen to BenT, the 4 in 1 carts can mess up your port. Aside from the save issue, the 4 in 1 carts don't work with some games (I think the vampire savior problem has been fixed in newer carts).
