According to EBgames and Gamestop, Mobile Light Force shipped today. It's from Xs/Jackofallgames, it's $10, it has an awful cover...and it's Gunbird.
Anyone find it yet?
You've got me confused. Is this a port of the Psikyo shooter Gunbird re-released under a different name (like Gekioh was to Shienryu), or is it a different vertical shooter with similarities to Gunbird?
...Holy shit. I'd wondered what Mobile Light Force could be (I'd assumed that it was some awful JPN military game), but...Gunbird?! Hell yes. I'll be picking that up posthaste.
Now, as for Mobile Light Force 2 (for PS2, $14.99)...what could that be? I'm assuming it's Project Minerva, a pretty bad military strategy game by D3 Publisher, but I could be wrong.
There was a Japanese-only PSX port of Gunbird, and it looks like XS Games have brought it over and given it a stupid title and cover. EBGames' description fits Gunbird...see for yourself:
Yeah, I know for a fact that Mobile Light Force PS1 is indeed Gunbird... MLF2 for PS2 however, is a grand mystery. My vote goes to Shikigami No Shiro 2, but your guess is as good as mine.
This is like the Sol Divide release. They aren't doing a very good job with the localizing (actually, progressively worse), but oddly, in an it's so bad (and cheap) it's good sort of way I'd buy it. PSX Gunbird is seriously lacking, though. One mode, the horrible "original 2" style mode, unless the other (playable) modes were well hidden and I just missed them.
That honestly has to be the worst rename/cover combo in the last 15+ years. Seriously.
i am much more interested in what MLF2 is. much, much more. i'll probably buy it no matter what it is. SnoS would be great, project minerva would be funny.. bring it on!
