Thread: Greatest console boot-up sequence?

  1. sggg, I think the Sonic thing is in the Sega CD as well. I seem to remember seeing it the last time I played the system.

The original Sega CD startup is different from the Flip-Top one. I don't think the Flip-Top had the earth as a background and the logo and CD player were different. All in all I liked it but I think Saturn boot up was best but I prefer the Neo Geo startup tone.

Yeah it starts with SOnic shaking his finger and sparkles comes out on the SEGA logo when a game is loaded.

  3. Yup, that's the one. Then it goes into the non-vocal SE-GA thing with just musical notes instead of a voice saying it.

  4. Ahhh cool, I've recently been reunited with my copy of Sega CD (which I have not played in aaaages) so I'll have to check it out!

  5. The SegaCDModelOne System boot-up is the block SEGA font flipfloping spiraling/scalling around in space leaving a sorta-stamped trail that built-up over while the earth sat in the bg. The game boot-up is sonic standing next to the logo like soundwave said. I think some games had modified versions ..like EarthwormJim

  6. I had the model 2 unit. Maybe this is why the bootup screen was not that rememberable?

  7. I also have the Model 2 one. My boot-up (before the Sonic thing) is a BG of the moon with the Sega CD logo overlapping it with rotating colors.

  8. Genesis - Games like Sonic and Pulseman, with the theme of the game interlaced into the boot-up.

Nintendo 64 - Similar to the Genesis, the games that worked in the theme, like Ogre Battle 64 chiselling out the 3D N logo with the little soldiers.

Definitely. The controller gave you complete control over the CD playback, with buttons for all the FF/Rew, repeat and play/pause etc. You had that nifty spaceship screensaver. You had the pulsating cubes. You even had allowances for A->B repeat and fun things like pitch changing and track programming.

It was like a funky stereo unit. Add in the MPEG card and the Saturn became a console/entertainment unit. My Saturn was indispensible in college. CD/VCD/Game player all-in-one.

Xbox startup is definitely ass. Loud, obnoxious and just takes too long (since it loads only after all that noise is finished with).

But I like the Xbox dash and front end. It's got stylisitc elements so it's kind of interesting to look at, it's got plenty of options and settings to tweak, it's got a decent audio playback with a screensaver and IMO it's got a far superior memory manager to PS2.

The Mega CD Sonic I was talking about is not the Sonic that appears beside the Sega logo that shoots sparks out of his hand. It's a much larger one on the screen.

Sggg, I don't know about the Euro Mega CD. I have a Japanese Mega CD 2, which has this Sonic.
