Thread: Megaman/Rockman EXE Transmission

    Megaman/Rockman EXE Transmission

Just got up to play Rockman EXE for Gamecube. ( Using Freeloader to play it ).

NOTE: Freeloader has one side effect - it screws up all of the JPN text into special characters and odd letters, but it don't effect the game menus or play at all.

Ah, yes, this is quite a nice little game - I've spent about an hour with it so far in the 1st few zones, but I'm really enjoying it. Quite a pleasant little twist on the EXE series.

Language barrier: It's pretty thick, since Mega Man is pretty heavily story driven. It doesn't stop me from enjoying the game, but you may want to wait until the domestic release in May.

Gameplay: It plays quite well, using the elements from the EXE series and the original series. Megaman jumps just like the original Megaman ( arms up and spread ), and he slides like him also ( down + Jump ). The feel so far is very nice and fluid.

The custom bar is there from EXE also - you pick out 5 chips at the beginning of the stage. When the custom bar at the top of the screen fills up, you can press the "Z" button and select up to 5 more chips. You can use the weapons in battle, just like the EXE series.

Graphics: Cel-shaded beauty, I tell you. Wait until you see the light-sourcing when he fires his weapon, or especially in the Fire Zone ( where I am currently at ). Mega Man and the other Navis/Robot Masters/Viruses look clean and well done. I can't wait to see the other designs of the other characters.

Sound: The zones that I have been to have very catchy little beats. The 1st area is merely okay, but it really cranks up when you get to the Boss zone.

Megaman himself says a few different things when he shoots, jumps, slides, etc. etc. I hope that it makes it over to the USA version.

Funfactor: Yes, it's quite fun so far ( and you know I'm a Mega Man whore anyway ). I keep going back to it, even though I've died quite a few times. It's never frustrating, just a little bit difficult at times.

Control: Nice and toight, like a toiger! It's pretty intuitive to play on the GC controller, but I hate that fact that the A button is so big. Drives me nuts, but that's just me.

The B button shoots, A jumps, L and R switches between special battle chip weapons, and Y shoot the chip weapons. Pretty decent set up, but I think that you can change it in the options mode.

    ------------------

Well, I must dive back into it now. I'll get back in a bit, I'm going to try to get to/defeat Fireman.

I hope they continue this series on the Gamecube! It's a blast so far!

  2. Can you use the d-pad for control? I'd like to use the SFC style HORI pad for this.

  3. I must play this.
I'd also like to thank everyone in the MMBN 3 thread for (unintentionally) making me buy the first two games.

Sidez: Yes, you can. I prefer the analog stick myself.

Chaof: Me too I still have to go out and get the 2nd. EXCELLENT series.

Get it when it comes out in May. You'll have plenty of time for Rockman Zero 2 and MMBN3 in a few months.

  7. I am so waiting for this game.

The best of both MM worlds on my GC!

  8. Grazie tanto.

I'm looking forward to giving this game a rental when it hits our shores. Problem is, in recent years, my liking for Mega Man has gone down. X4-7 just burned me.
bastard of the new world order.

    I understand you about X5-X6.

X4 was my favorite X title, though. It had it all. Music, smooth gameplay, graphics.

Then it just went downhill from there.
