Thread: The Ohio Gamespot (Name Pending)

  1. The Ohio Gamespot (Name Pending)

Well to start off, I'm just going to give a short disclaimer saying: I am a lazy person, I post this mainly in search of help, tips, and advice on what I am doing. This is mainly to deal with people in Ohio, though suggestions are welcome from other people, and help from Mech who I believe lives in Ohio as well correct? Also as to the name, I will probably change it since I don't think GameSpot would like me using their name in mine.

Anyways my idea, is basically to try and keep tracks on everything gaming related, or at least a little bit of it, in Ohio. I was just bored sitting in my bed last night thinking about what I should do for web page design, and I for some reason just thought to do this.

First I'd probably try and get locations of every (or most) arcade located in Ohio, starting with Namco since they have their arcade locations on their site I believe. Also try and include an inventory of what games they have (Though this probably won't happen except for ones with a large selection.) I really don't intend to include the arcades in movie theatres and whatnot, because there is just too many of them. I probably would need help from people who can drive (Cause I can't for a few months) or just people who live all around Ohio, in order to get the arcades near them. I will be including the ones in malls, like SouthPark Mall's arcade. So anyone in Ohio who knows of some arcades near them, I would appreciate information concerning them if you could. Though I figure not a lot of people on TNL live in Ohio, it's probably a small state gaming wise (Probably).

Also I'd attempt to get video's of every tournament possible that happens within Ohio, though that will be hard so I'd probably just stick to bigger ones. Can't attend every tournament at every arcade in Ohio. Any Pictures of the nearby arcades would be nice, but just info would be fine as well. Maybe even try and host an tournament (Randomly assembled players) just for the beginning.

Another thing I planned on doing, was keeping track on prices of games in Ohio, mainly new, but also labling the prices found on used games. Keeping inventory of a handful of stores in Ohio would also be helpful, and I'm sure any who visits the site would be able to contribute. I can't really figure if I think it would be incredibly hard, or just hard to start, and once I get help maybe it would be easier. Obviously locations of stores would be included, it's not helpful to know prices, and have no location in which to find said price.

Though this last part isn't really much, I thought about keeping track on any big LANs or anything of the sort, for the computer people. I just thought would be pretty cool too, because I would like to go to LANs more often, but don't always know where they are.

Those are my goals, but right now I really don't have much done, seeing as how it popped into my head last night. Being lazy, I probably won't try much unless I know I'll have a few people to rely on. Though maybe I can force myself to grow up a little, get over my lazy habbit, and make something of myself. Web page wise, I'm just right now thinking up the design, color scheme, and what exactly I want. Unfortunatly I have bad taste in Web Design, so I might look for someone else to handle that.

Anyways those are my ideas, and my plan. I hope that anyone on TNL who happens to live in Ohio will help out a little. If not, damn, I'll just have to survive.

Thank you ahead of time, for reading this, and any suggestions you may give.

  2. Well I'm in Columbus (the mecca of game shops for some damn reason). I work at a little shop called Game-Arama just outside of the OSU Campus. Let me know what you want and I'll help ya out.

  3. Arcades suck up here in Cleveland. Powerplay is finally gone and I think the closest fix is Six Flags (ha!), unless you count Dave and Busters (which I've never actually been in).

I've got a feeling the only decent arcades/tournaments and the such will be near Columbus. If only it wasn't so far.

There aint much here arcade wise just D&B, Gameworks, Buckeye Cafe & a Namco Timeout (and maybe a few little shitty ones). I almost never see Tournys around here, the Namco Timeout and a Putt-Putt place had a Tekken 4 tourny a year ago and that's the only one I've seen since. The store I work at is holding a NCAA Football 2003 tourny this summer, winner gets a free copy of 2004 for the system of their choice. But we've only had like 7 people sing up so far.

Now that would be very helpful, since I remember when I went to Ohayocon in Columbus I heard of a few arcades around there. If you could information such as their location, and what games they have (or perhaps overall decent games). Also, I didn't really want to go into this, but IF There are any bowling alleys or movie theatres with good arcades in them, those would good too. Also, anything you want to post about your shop is fine, I'm probably not going to launch anything big and use the information to pass by my Web Page Design class. But after that I intend to actually try and make something of myself, and accomplish this site. Thanks ahead for your support, any other ideas please speak them.

Right now I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to go about getting the info, but I figured I'd be able to start with large cities such as Columbus and Cleveland, as well as Cincinatti. Though I still need to check Namco for all the arcades they have in Ohio. My Web Page Design Teacher constantly says, "The only thing you have complete control of, unchanged and the same to everyone, is the information you supply." So right now I'm not really worried about looks, just the information I'm going to put on it. Though I would like to get a Color Scheme so I can make a banner, and put it in my sig. Though I do think I should also get another name, less I want to get a law suit from GameSpot.

Heh, yeah I wasn't sure about Cleveland, but if you do find anything worth a damn, by all means mention it. A few things that would make an arcade worthwhile are things like Beatmania IIDX, or some good fighting games around it. Light Gun Shooters are nice, Schmups (Please correct spelling if that is wrong), anything really special if you can find any. Heh, and if I could get you to go out of your way one day when your bored, just drive around town looking for an Arcade :P. That's what I was actually thinking of doing, just driving to a random city in Ohio, or town with a decent size, and driving around and asking people for locations on any arcades ^^. That I think would be kind of funny.

Heh, SouthPark Mall my friend, they have some good SC2 tournaments often. I believe I was told they usually have one every other week. You can find the I think SouthPark Guild on the SoulCalibur 2 Forums. Tain knows more about it than I do. We also as you probably know, have VOOM in SouthPark Mall. Also Tain has been telling me we should go to the Arcade in Parma where they have DDR 7th I believe? Though we have MAX2 in SouthPark Mall.

Alright, thanks guys, I figure this will take a while, and it probably won't live up to my hoping to know every arcade outside of Bowling Alleys and Movie Theatres, but I think I could get locations on a few decent ones. I might even take inventory on the arcades in Cedar Point, see if it has a nice list. Though I wouldn't actually pay to get into Cedar point in order to play in the arcade.

Heh seems there isn't much to work with up here in Ohio, maybe I just picked the easiest state to do this for ^^.
