Thread: Finally, My New PC is built

  1. But it's bright green.
Therefore: Alienware > everything else x hampster dance

  2. Well, Just buy a Bright Green case, plus if you really into color get extra light wiring in the colors you want

Alienware costs are pretty steep. I was checking around before, and their setups were little too expensive, I guess you paying for a brand name .

  3. yeah i got an alienware clone case with my new rigg. and chemist.....why would you remove the thermal pad on the cpu? you wanna kill it?

  4. He replaced the thermal pad with a thermal gel -- which works *much* better.

  5. i use the gel and still have my pads on.....ive never heard of taking them off. you mean pads as in the rubber feet right?

  6. I've got a very similar PC to you guys. The Radeon 9700 Pro might be the best PC component I've ever purchased.

Ah, those are different pads. He is talking about removing a thermal heat-transfer pad that many manufacturers put on CPU coolers.

Removing the pads you're talking about is, of course, a big no-no.

I'm 8 hours into building mine, about 4 for my brother (and me learn) and I'm on 4 now playing with the BIOS and trying to install the OS. Unfortunatly, the only OS is on this PC and is XP, which is the first OS to not use boot disks, and my win95 laptop has no floppy drive, so I need 6 floppies to get the WinXP boot disk from MS' site. Unfortunatly, I've DLed the boot disks for everything up to 98 and none have worked, all telling me to remove the disk and press enter. I'm thinking about just putting my old HD in (40 gig, but it already has WinXP)to bypass installing an OS, would it bypass it?

  9. i think it might... But i just finished mine!!! woooo
Black aluminum case, Blue neon sound light, window, blue 4 led fans, Burner, 80gig 8meg cache, Athlon 2100+, gigabyte Ultra dual bios motherboard, and XP professional, all rolled into one!! hahaha plus my 8500LE video card for
    95$.. hahhaha
And i ended up not putting on the gel, i couldn't find it anywhere..... And rich... XP has boot disks, mine had 6, it took like 2 hours to install.. I even tried with my 98 disk, it was hell, so i suggest you get some XP boots disks dude... its makes it all easier..

Yeah, it has boot disks, but what I meant is that you can't do it from your actual OS like with the previous and format the disk, you need to DL it. If the HD thing don't work, I'll go buy some disks.
