we mainly read short stories and poems. oh and shakespere.

Typically, things that were forced down my throat I didnt like.

the things i read on my own I did. for instance, in sixth grade i read Hamlet and the Oddessy. but then freshman year I was forced to read romeo and juliet. needless to say I fucking hate that story. Macbeth also.

I really like death of the salesmen though.

  2. its funny, in my educational caeer, i have been assigned death of a salesman 3 times, adn have never read it. Generally i enjoy reading, so most reading experiences were pelasent. I have to respectfully disagree with stone's love of the great gatsby, i could never find any character even partially likeable or interesting, adn i recall it was a painful slog through that book.

one of my favorites that i still chug through was Brothers karamozov, which really got me started on Dostoyevsky, who is easily one of my 3 favorite writers ever. animal farm and brave new world were also interesting, but in retrospect i think i enjoyed them a lot more back then.

Yeah, Agatha Christie (sp?) ain't bad. Farenheit 451 was OK, and I can take (and even appreciate) most of Shakespeare. But there's a book... a book so horrible that I refused to read it, and therefore failed the test on it. I told the teacher I couldn't do it. Straight A's in English up until that point. Needless to say, I hate the book (and it's author).

Ladies and gentlemen, the most horrid, insipid, and inane book ever penned by Satan himself: Great Expectations. Dickens is shit.

  4. Liked: Lord of The Flies, Catcher in The Rye, Native Son, Crucible, Great Gatsby
Hated: Wuthering Heights, Grapes of Wrath.

I still don't think I'd like WH or GOW... But to this day, my favorite novel is Catcher in The Rye, and Gatsby is a close 2nd.

  5. My favorites are Catcher in the Rye, The Great Gatsby, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I liked parts of Moby Dick, and I recognize that Melville is an amazing writer, but I was forced to read through the book so quickly in my AP class that it ruined it for me- instead of reading through it slowly and enjoying the language, I had to burn through it while taking notes on names and places so I could pass the quiz the next day. I'd like to read through it again though, at a more leisurely pace.
