Good. We have enough of those around tarnishing the programming profession.

    THAT'S the eternal question.
I learned C in High school, C++ basics in college. Computer graphics was spread out from 2D on the Mac in HS and then 3D by myself after I quit college. Beginning assembler in college, polished the skills on my own. I took all the tough classes before I quit. I got the rest at Viewpoint. It was a re-education of immense proportions. It is hard to learn anything on your own while completing a bachelor's degree and they don't usually have curriculums on comp graphics. The way I see it is you pick it up in bits and pieces everywhere like math, physics, programming courses, but there's no central point for it. That's why it sucks for guys like me.
I don't know how to get rid of the huge space here.

  3. What is Viewpoint?

  4. Shit dyne! How did you know!?? you must be from around here..?!
You can never be one of the dead, because something that has no existence can have no community.

MetaCreations = MetaStream = Viewpoint Corp.

They are the makers of Painter, Kai's Power Tools, Bryce, Ray Dream Designer, Poser, and a lot of other graphics software.

  6. Excellent. What is it you do there?

  7. Did. I ported in house programs to the Mac and did work on the main 3D plugin. I also did some documentation of the main file format. The team is only a fraction of what it once was in California, only the main 3 guys remained. Others split to companies like Corel or started consulting firms. Some, like Curious Labs bought back the software on which they personally worked the most during their employment. For Curious Labs it was Poser, for Eovia it was Carrara/Ray Dream. The Painter creators went to Corel and I don't know anyone who migrated to Canada for KPT from the original team. As far as I know they're still in Santa Barbara CA. I am already writing some revolutionary graphics software which I hope to finish by mid-summer, which I hope will spark the computer art scene again. Everyone's been using the same tools since 1997.

  9. Well, I only really enjoy creative stuff, and I'm not really good at anything else, so I'm planning on doing a Music degree here, but first I have to get some better gear and save up some money. The great thing is that the courses they offer also cover the business side of the industry, teaching you how to create a long term career in the music industry. Also, with their many links to the music industry, they do job placement for the right students.
